NU Splits A Pair With The Red Foxes

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Niagara split a pair of games with the Marist Red Foxes on Friday. 

Game Recap
  • In the top of the first inning, Dawson Bailey scored on a wild pitch to give the Purple Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
  • With two runners on base, Cole O'Connor singled through the right side, driving in two runs to extend Niagara's lead, 3-0.
  • A solo homerun from the Red Foxes in the bottom of the fourth inning cut Niagara's lead to two runs, 3-1.
  • A sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Marist in the bottom of the fifth tied the score, 3-3.
  • The Red Foxes added three runs in the sixth and held the Purple Eagles off in the seventh to earn the 6-3 win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • O'Connor, Michael Gabriele, Joe Tevlin and Mike Brisson each had one hit for the Purple Eagles.
  • O'Connor led the team in RBIs with two.
  • Brisson had one stolen base.
  • Kyle Smyth tossed 4.2 innings in a no-decision. He fanned four and allowed four hits and three earned runs.
  • Matt Grace (0-1) took the loss on the mound.

Game Recap
  • Marist got on the board first in game two, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • In the top of the second, an RBI single from Gabriele tied the score, 1-1. Brisson then blasted a three-run homerun out of the park to put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 4-1.
  • A sacrifice fly from Max Giordano in the top of the third extended Niagara's lead, 5-1.
  • In the top of the fourth, Brisson went yard for the second time, sending two runs across the plate to put NU up by six, 7-1.
  • A solo homerun from the Red Foxes in the fifth added another run, but the Purple Eagles remained in the lead, 7-2.
  • A two-run homer from Marist in the bottom of the sixth cut Niagara's lead to three runs, 7-4.
  • In the top of the seventh inning, a sacrifice fly from Giordano scored O'Connor to extend the Purple Eagles' lead, 8-4.
  • Marist once again cut Niagara's lead to three, 8-5, after an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
  • The Purple Eagles held the Red Foxes scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings to earn the game two win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Brisson's homeruns were the first homers of his career. He also recorded a career-high five RBIs.
  • Brisson and Matt Zaremba led the Purple Eagles in hits with two each.
  • Jacob Bruning (2-2) earned the win. He fanned four and allowed seven hits and four earned runs in 6.2 innings pitched.
  • Steven Hospital earned his first save of the season. He struck out one and gave up just one hit in 2.1 innings pitched.
