NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara University women's lacrosse head coach
Wendy Stone has announced the promotion of
Amy Martin to associate head coach.
"Amy has been a tremendous asset to our program during her five-year tenure at NU,' Stone said. "She has been vital to our team's efforts both on and off the field. Amy has continually stretched herself both personally and professionally during her time here, and she has touched every aspect of our program. She has done an incredible job both on and off the field. Amy is completely deserving of her new title, and we could not be more proud to call her ours."
Martin is in her fifth season at Niagara. She works primarily with the goaltenders and defenders while also serving as the recruiting coordinator, overseeing team travel, and managing the team's social media accounts.
Martin has coached numerous Purple Eagles to conference and national accolades. She has coached five All-MAAC First-Team selections, five All-MAAC Second-Team selections, five MAAC All-Rookie selections, an IWLCA Regional All-American, and the 2017 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Lexi Higgins. During the abbreviated 2020 season, she helped coach goalkeeper
Michelle Messenger to the highest save percentage in the NCAA.
Before Niagara, Martin spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga. from 2014-16. She coached five Atlantic Sun Conference Second-Team players, two Atlantic Sun All-Rookie selections, and four A-Sun Defensive Players of the Week during her two-year tenure. Martin helped the Owls set program records in overall wins in 2015 and 2016 while qualifying for the conference tournament both seasons. Before Kennesaw State, Martin was a graduate assistant at Wagner from 2012-14.
Martin was a four-year starter in net at Holy Cross and was a senior captain from 2008-11. A six-time Patriot League Goalie of the Week recipient, Martin was named the 2010 Patriot League Goalie of the Year as well as landing on the 2010 First Team All-Patriot League and All-Patriot League Tournament Team.
Martin, a native of Detroit, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Holy Cross in 2011 and a Master of Science in education from Wagner in 2014.
