EDISON, N.J. –
Rodrigo Almeida and
Asher Barnes have both earned MAAC weekly awards, announced by the conference on Tuesday. Almeida was named Offensive Player of the Week and Barnes earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Almeida was instrumental in Niagara's 4-0 victory over crosstown rival Canisius on March 28. Almeida scored two goals, for his first career two-goal game. He also added one assist and recorded a career-high five points. On the week, he averaged three shots per game, one goal per game and two and a half points per game.
Barnes scored both goals in the Purple Eagles' 2-1 win over the Griffs on March 24. It was Niagara's first win over Canisius since 2013. Barnes' two goals were the first of his collegiate career and he had a perfect 100% shots-on-goal percentage for the game. On the week, Barnes averaged one and a half shots per game, one goal per game and two points per game.
The Purple Eagles are back in action on Thursday, April 1 when they host Manhattan at 2:00 p.m.
