McCoy Earns 200th Win In DH Split At Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Niagara baseball head coach Rob McCoy earned his 200th career win as the Purple Eagles split a doubleheader with Siena on Friday.

Game Recap
  • Game one was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Saints.
  • A solo homerun from Benny Serrano, which would turn out to be the game-winning run, in the top of the fourth put the Purple Eagles on the board.
  • An RBI single from Cole O'Connor in the sixth scored Serrano and gave the Purple Eagles the 2-0 advantage.
  • The Saints went down in order in the seventh inning and iced the Purple Eagles' victory and Coach McCoy's 200th career victory.  

Eagle's Eye On
  • Serrano led the Purple Eagles with two hits. O'Connor, Dawson Bailey and Joe Tevlin each added one hit.
  • Serrano and O'Connor had one RBI each and Serrano had one stolen base.
  • Marcus Cashman (1-0) picked up his first career win on the mound. He struck out two and allowed just two hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
  • Zach Cameron earned the save. He struck out two and did not give up any hits in 3.0 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning off a solo homerun.
  • Siena added on another run in the third and three runs in the fifth off a three-RBI double to take a 5-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Niagara began to pick up momentum in the top of the sixth. An RBI double from Michael Gabriele scored Serrano to put the Purple Eagles on the board. An RBI single from Cole Tucker and a score from Gabriele on a wild pitch cut Siena's lead to two runs, 5-3.
  • Siena, however, had three RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth to put its lead back at five, 8-3.
  • An RBI double and a two-run homerun from the Saints in the seventh extend their lead over Niagara, 11-3.
  • Bailey homered in the ninth inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Saints, who earned an 11-4 win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Serrano had a team-high two hits and Tucker added two hits. Serrano also had a team-best two stolen bases.
  • Bailey, Gabriele and Tucker each had one RBI.
  • Gabriele and Mike Brisson each hit a double.
  • Jacob Bruning (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He fanned four and gave up one earned run in 4.2 innings pitched.
