LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Purple Eagles split a doubleheader with the Rider Broncs on Sunday. After dropping game one, 9-0, Niagara bounced back with an 8-3 victory in game two for its first win of the season.

Game Recap
  • A score on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly and an RBI double gave the Broncs a 3-0 lead over the Purple Eagles in the third inning.
  • Another RBI double from Rider in the bottom of the fourth extended its lead, 4-0.
  • The Broncs added two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-0 advantage over the Purple Eagles.
  • Mike Brisson singled to right field to open the sixth inning for the Purple Eagles. With one out on the board, Max Giordano singled to left field to advance Brisson into scoring position, but Rider earned two quick outs to leave both Brisson and Giordano stranded on base.
  • Rider scored two more times in the sixth to take a 9-0 lead. The Broncs held the Purple Eagles off in the seventh to earn the win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Brisson and Giordano each had one hit for the Purple Eagles.
  • Ben Erwin (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He struck out one and gave up three earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead over the Broncs in the top of the first innings after an RBI single from Peter Battaglia.
  • In the top of the third frame, with two runners on base, Marty Cole singled and advanced on an error by Rider's right fielder, scoring Battaglia to give Niagara a 2-0 lead.
  • Dawson Bailey scored on a wild pitch in the fourth innings to put Niagara ahead of Rider, 3-0.
  • A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh put Rider on the board.
  • The Purple Eagles dominated offensively in the ninth inning. A double from Battaglia sent two runs across home plate, Cole O'Connor scored on a throwing error by the Broncs' second baseman and a two-RBI single from Matt Zaremba extended Niagara's lead over Rider, 8-1.
  • Rider added on two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Purple Eagles held steady to earn the 8-3 victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • The Purple Eagles combined for 13 hits. O'Connor had a team-best three hits. Battaglia, Zaremba and Benny Serrano each added two hits.
  • Battaglia had a team-high three RBIs and Bailey led the Purple Eagles in runs scored with three.
  • Chaz DeLuca (1-0) earned the win. He fanned four and gave up just one earned run in 6.1 innings pitched.
