Niagara Drops A Pair At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Purple Eagles dropped both games of a doubleheader against Rider on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • Game one was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Broncs.
  • Singles from Dawson Bailey and Peter Battagliain the fourth inning gave the Purple Eagles their best scoring opportunities of the game, but they were not able to capitalize.
  • The teams remained scoreless at the end of the scheduled seven innings. Rider earned the win in the fourth inning off a bases-loaded walk.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Bailey and Battaglia had NU's only hits of the game.
  • Jacob Bruning started on the mound; he fanned three and gave up just one hit in 4.1 innings pitched.
  • Zach Cameron took the loss. He struck out one and walked three in 2.2 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles scored first in game two off an RBI single from Michael Gabriele in the top of the first inning.
  • A sacrifice fly from the Broncs in the bottom of the first tied the score, 1-1.
  • In the top of the second, Matt Zaremba scored to put Niagara back in the lead, 2-1. The Broncs, however, added four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • In the third inning, Battaglia and Benny Serrano both scored to leave Niagara trailing by just one run, 5-4.
  • Rider had a big fourth inning, tacking on five more runs to its lead. The Broncs added one more run in the fifth to take an 11-4 lead.
  • Cole Tucker scored in the sixth for the Purple Eagles, but it was not enough to overcome Rider's lead and Niagara fell to the Broncs, 11-5.
