Niagara Tops Holy Cross Friday Night, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass – The Purple Eagles (3-8-2, 3-2-2-1) erased an early deficit to earn a 3-1 win over Holy Cross (3-13-1, 2-6-1) in Atlantic Hockey action Friday night. Josef Mysak, Zac Herrmann, and Ryan Naumovski found the back of the net, and Chad Veltri stopped 23-of-24 shots in the win. 

Game Recap
First Period
• Niagara controlled possession in the first period of play, outshooting the Crusaders 12-3. 
• Holy Cross scored a power play goal with two minutes remaining in the opening period to take a 1-0 lead.
• Niagara killed two Crusader penalties in the opening period before allowing the late power play goal. 
• The Purple Eagles went 0-for-1 on its power play chances in the first.  

Second Period
• Niagara would tie the game on a goal from Mysak. The goal came from the top of the circle, with the Purple Eagles on a 5-on-3 advantage.
• After Holy Cross was called for delay of game – the Purple Eagles once again had a 5-on-3 opportunity. They would find the back of the net; this time, Herrmann would score from the circle, rifling a wrister past the Holy Cross goalie. 
• The Purple Eagles put 10 shots on goal in the second period as they played most of the frame with a man advantage. 
• By the time the period came to a close, Niagara was 2-for-6 on power play chances. The Purple Eagles also had 22 shots on goal following 40-minutes of action.

Third Period
• Niagara started the third on the power play and put solid chances on net in attempt to build its lead. 
• Three minutes into the third, the Purple Eagles got two power play opportunities, but came up short with the man advantage. 
• It wasn't until the game's final minute, with the Holy Cross goal vacated, that Niagara got its insurance tally. 
• Naumovski skated past the defense and dumped the puck into the vacated net for the third goal of the contest for the Purple Eagles. 

Niagara Notes
• Mysak has scored a goal in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. 
• Veltri has made 20-plus saves in all seven games this season. 
• Niagara's two power play goals tonight were a season-high for the Purple Eagles.
• For the fifth time this season, Niagara scored at least three goals, improving to 3-0-2 in those games.

The Purple Eagles will look for the series sweep of Holy Cross on Saturday. Puck drop between the Purple Eagles and Crusaders is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
