PULLMAN, Wash. – Despite a late lead, the Purple Eagles fell to Washington State, 6-3, on Friday.

Game Recap
  • The Cougars scored first, taking a 1-0 lead after an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • In the top of the fifth, Peter Battaglia doubled to right center field, scoring Cole O'Connor to tie the score, 1-1.
  • In the top of the sixth inning, Josh Marchese was walked. Spencer Marcus came in to pinch run for Marchese and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. A sacrifice bunt from Michael Gabriele advanced Marcus to third and he scored on the next play, giving Niagara the 2-1 lead over Washington State.
  • A two-run homerun from the Cougars in the bottom of the sixth inning put them back in the lead, 3-2, but the Purple Eagles quickly tied the score. A sacrifice fly from Benny Serrano in the seventh frame plated Dawson Bailey.
  • The Cougars scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning off a three-run homerun.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Bailey, Battaglia, O'Connor, Serrano, Gabriele, Marty Cole and Max Giordano each had one hit. Bailey and Battaglia each had one double.
  • Battaglia, Cole and Serrano each recorded one RBI.
  • Jacob Bruning started on the mound. He fanned five, walked one and gave up four hits and three earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched.
  • MacKinnon took the loss. He struck out two batters while allowing four hits and three earned runs.
