On the heels of a hard-fought home win over Merrimack, the Niagara women's lacrosse team will hit the road once again for a Sunday showdown at Big East school Marquette.

Matchup Preview
  • This marks the third meeting in as many seasons between the Purple Eagles and the Golden Eagles.
  • Marquette has won each of the first two meetings. In 2018, the Golden Eagles defended home turf with a 23-15 victory. Last season on Monteagle Ridge, Niagara fell by a 16-12 margin.
  • The Purple Eagles are seeking their first win against a Big East team.

Niagara Notes
  • Niagara won its last game, 10-8, at home over Merrimack. Shea Swartwout accounted for six points (5 G, 1 A) in the win, while Michelle Messenger stopped 12 of the 16 shots she faced for her first victory of the season.
  • Swartwout and Jenna Brill lead Niagara's offense with eight points each (2.67 per game). Swartwout also ranks eighth in the MAAC with a team-best 5.22 shots per game.
  • Messenger's 7.34 goals-against average is the best rate in the MAAC. Her .655 save percentage is also tops in the conference.
  • Both Messenger and Aubrey DeVeau rank in the conference top 10 in terms of saves per game (both T-8th – 6.33).

Milestone Watch
  • Paul enters Sunday's game with 73 career caused turnovers, second-most in program history. She is currently 16 back of Alexandra Higgins ('18) for the most all-time (89).
  • Paul also has 109 career ground balls, seventh-most of any Niagara player. Her first ground ball against Merrimack on Friday broke a tie with Megan McNerney ('03). Coming in to Sunday, she is one back of Elizabeth Benedict ('16) for sixth all time (110).
  • Messenger now has 80 saves in Purple and White, 29 back shy of entering the program's all-time top-10 list.
  • Maren Geiger (4), Messenger (2), and DeVeau (2) all have excellent chances to move up the all-time wins list. Each already rank in the top-10 for the category, and would enter the top-5 by notching their seventh career victories.

Scouting the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette is coming off an 18-11 victory over Canisius on Friday. On the year, the Golden Eagles are 2-0 at home, with the other win coming over Cincinnati, 17-6.
  • Megan Menzuber has 13 points (9 G, 4 A) to lead the squad.
  • Caroline Steller's seven assists are a team high.
  • In net, Sophia Leva and Julianna Horning have split time, with both making appearances in each of the team's first four games. Leva's 11.87 goals-against average and .525 save percentage are the better marks among the two.
