NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara University hockey head coach
Jason Lammers has announced the team's schedule for the 2020-21 campaign. The Purple Eagles will play 28 total games, including six against non-conference opponents.
Attendance will be limited to essential gameday personnel only, and games will not be open to the general public at this time. All home games and away games against AHA opponents will be available on FloHockey.tv for live streaming. If conditions allow for fan attendance at any point during the season, ticket information will be announced at a later date.
Per the Atlantic Hockey scheduling format for this season, Niagara will play in the western pod alongside Canisius, Mercyhurst, RIT, and Robert Morris. They will also play twice against Air Force, which was not placed in a pod and will split games evenly among both the eastern and western teams. Additionally, the AHA announced Long Island (LIU) as a scheduling partner for the year, as the Sharks enter their first season at the Division I level as an independent program. Games against LIU will not be counted in the conference standings.
The season will begin on November 20 in Canton, N.Y., when Niagara visits St. Lawrence for a 5 p.m. puck against the Saints. Two days later, both teams will square off again at Dwyer Arena at 4 p.m.
A home-and-home against RIT opens the conference portion of the schedule. The Tigers will host the first game on November 27, before the series shifts to Dwyer the following night at 5 p.m.
A midweek clash at home against Clarkson at 5 p.m. on December 9 will open up a busy week for the Purple Eagles. After facing off against the Golden Knights, who closed out their 2019-20 campaign as the No. 8 team in the country, Niagara will play at Robert Morris on December 11 and at home against the Colonials on December 12 at 7 p.m.
On December 16, Niagara will take the drive to Erie, Pa. to battle Mercyhurst. On December 18, the Lakers will drive up to Monteagle Ridge to close out the home-and-home at 4 p.m.
The Battle of the Bridge resumes with a 2 p.m. home affair against Canisius on December 22.
After a week off for the holiday break, play will resume when the Purple Eagles travel to Clarkson to close out the season series against the Golden Knights on December 29.
Niagara will ring in the new year with a pair of home games against Air Force on January 2-3. Both games will begin at 5 p.m. The team will remain at home for a 5 p.m. puck drop against Robert Morris on January 7, before traveling to Pittsburgh two days later to open up a four-game road swing, the longest of the season for Niagara.
January 15-16 will see the Purple Eagles take on LIU in their first-ever matchups. Start times for both games are yet to be determined.
An away matchup against the Golden Griffins on January 22 closes out the road trip, as two days later both teams will square off at 3 p.m. in Dwyer Arena.
A standalone game at RIT on January 30 will be the lone contest for the Purple Eagles before another home-and-home against Canisius on February 4 (home) and February 6 (away).
On February 11, the Purple Eagles will travel to Mercyhurst before Robert Morris travels to Niagara County for a 3 p.m. showdown on February 14.
February 18 (home) and 20 (away) will see Niagara taking on the Lakers in another home-and-home. Puck drop for the game at Dwyer Arena is still to be determined.
Niagara will wrap up its regular season on February 26-27 against RIT, with the final home game being played on that Friday at 5 p.m.
The first round of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament will take place from March 5-7. The quarterfinals will be held the following week, from March 12-14. Both of the first two rounds will be best-of-three series and hosted by the highest respective seeds. The single-elimination AHA semifinals (March 19) and championship (March 20) will once again be held at HarborCenter in downtown Buffalo.
