GAME NOTES Niagara | Army West Point

The Niagara men's hockey team returns home this weekend to host Army West Point at Dwyer Arena. The Purple Eagles and Black Knights will open a two-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night.

Matchup Preview
  • This is the first and only series of the regular season between Niagara and Army West Point.
  • Last season, the Purple Eagles traveled to West Point, New York and split the two-game set on the road. Niagara won the first game, 3-1, but dropped the finale, 5-1.
  • In 24 previous meetings, Niagara holds a 15-8-1-0 record against the Black Knights since the two schools first met in 2000.
  • The last time Army West Point paid a visit to Dwyer Arena was November 10-11, 2017. Niagara fell in the first game of that series, but closed it out with a 3-2 victory.
  • The Purple Eagles are 9-3-0-0 all-time against the Black Knights on Monteagle Ridge.

Niagara Notes
  • In their most recent outing, the Purple Eagles were swept at Air Force on January 17-18.
  • Brian Wilson – Niagara's nominee for the Hobey Baker Award –currently ranks second among Atlantic Hockey goalies in terms of save percentage (.922), and seventh with a 2.55 goals-against average. A recent seven game stretch saw Wilson allow just 10 goals, including two to eighth-ranked Penn State. Between November 22 and January 4, Wilson owned the nation's highest save percentage (.960) and the fifth-best goals-against average (1.25).
  • In just his second career game at Air Force on January 18, Jason Pineo notched his first collegiate point by nabbing an assist on Justin Kendall's second period goal.
  • Ryan Cox set a new personal best by recording two assists at Air Force on January 17. It was Cox's first multi-point game in the purple and white.
  • Alex Truscott's two-point (1 G, 1 A) outing on January 17 was his third career multi-point game, and his first since November 3, 2018 at Robert Morris.

Scouting The Black Knights
  • Army West Point enters the weekend second in the Atlantic Hockey standings, three points behind conference-leading Sacred Heart.
  • The Black Knights are the highest-ranked AHA team in the Pairwise, coming into Friday's game sitting at 25th in the country. The team also received 31 votes in the most recent USCHO poll, more than any other school in the conference.
  • The squad entered the USCHO Top 20 on December 30, but losses to two top-15 schools the following week bumped them back out.
  • In the team's most recent outing, Army West Point lost a 3-2 exhibition at Royal Military College on January 18. On January 10-11, the Black Knights took five points from Air Force at home.
  • Michael Wilson leads the squad with 18 points (9 G, 9 A) in 23 games.
  • Trevin Kozlowski has played all but 17 minutes in net for Army West Point this season. In 23 appearances, the junior has a 2.16 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. He is also tied for the conference lead in wins (14).
