LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – A complete game shutout from Matthew Brash highlighted a doubleheader split for the Purple Eagles as they opened MAAC play against the Rider Broncs on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles took a 1-0 lead over the Broncs in the top of the first frame after an RBI single from Michael Gabriele.
  • In the top of the third, Darian Blanks scored to put Niagara ahead, 2-0.
  • Rider scored on a wild pitch in the home half of the fourth inning to cut Niagara's lead in half and scored again in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score, 2-2.
  • A two-run homerun from the Broncs in the sixth gave them their first lead of the game, 4-2. Two more runs from Rider in the seventh extended the Broncs' lead, 6-2.
  • Niagara had a strong eighth inning. RBI singles from Dawson Bailey and Peter Battaglia and a score on a Rider error for Benny Serrano put Niagara down by just one run, 6-5.
  • Rider, however, maintained its offensive momentum, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to earn the eventual 13-5 victory over NU.

  • Bailey and Joseph Tevlin led the Purple Eagles at the plate with two hits each. One of Tevlin's hits was a double.
  • Bailey, Serrano, Battaglia and Gabriele each recorded one RBI.

  • Josh Marchese led the Purple Eagles with two hits and Grace had one double.
