PROVO, Utah – The Purple Eagles baseball team was defeated by the BYU Cougars, 11-5, on Tuesday afternoon.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles took the early 1-0 lead over the Cougars after a sacrifice fly from Peter Battaglia in the top of the first inning sent Dawson Bailey across the plate for NU's first run of the game.
  • In the top of the second, Darian Blanks scored on a fielding error by BYU to add to Niagara's lead, 2-0.
  • The Cougars halved Niagara's lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.
  • BYU had a big fourth inning, scoring six runs to take a 7-2 lead over the Purple Eagles. The Cougars added on two runs in the fifth to extend their lead, 9-2.
  • In the top of the sixth, an RBI single from Max Giordano scored Battaglia. Josh Marchese followed that up with an RBI single of his own, cutting BYU's lead to five, 9-4.
  • The Cougars tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth to get ahead of the Purple Eagles by six, 10-4.
  • An RBI single from Blanks in the bottom of the eighth once again cut BYU's lead to five, 10-5. BYU, however, scored once more in the bottom of the eighth and earned the 11-5 win over the Purple Eagles.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Bailey, Battaglia and Blanks led the Purple Eagles with two hits each.
  • Battaglia, Blanks, Giordano and Marchese each had one RBI.
  • Bailey had one stolen base.
  • Jackson Jones (0-1) took the loss on the mound. He struck out two batters and allowed four hits and five earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched. He faced four batters in the fourth inning.
