RECORDS Bucknell (1-6) – Niagara (1-7)
LOCATION Depew Field

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Purple Eagles were defeated by Bucknell, 14-1, on Friday.

Game Recap
  • The Bison struck early in the game, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single, an RBI double and a score on a throwing error by Niagara's shortstop.
  • In the top of the second, Benny Serrano reached base after he was hit by a pitch. Serrano then stole second and advanced to third after a single up the middle from Max Giordano. Josh Marchese grounded into a double play, but Serrano was able to score, cutting Bucknell's lead to two, 3-1.
  • Niagara was in scoring position again in the top of the third, as Dawson Bailey and Matthew Grace were both walked, and then advanced to second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch. Bucknell, however, got the third out and NU was not able to capitalize.
  • The Bison were in control for the remainder of the game, limiting Niagara's opportunities. Bucknell added one run in the third and two in the fourth to extend its lead, 7-1. The Bison scored seven more runs over the last four innings to earn the 14-1 victory.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Giordano recorded Niagara's lone hit of the day.
  • Matthew Brash (0-2) took the loss on the mound. He fanned nine, just two short of his career-high, and allowed five hits and four earned runs in 5.0 innings pitched. Brash leads the Niagara pitching staff in strikeouts with 27 in 16.0 innings pitched so far this season.
