Cross Country Returns For Canisius Alumni Classic

The Niagara University cross country teams will partake in their final meet of the regular season at tomorrow's Canisius Alumni Classic. The Purple Eagles, who have had two weeks rest since their last outing, look to head into the MAAC Championships with momentum.
 
Pre-Race Notes (Women)
  • Nora Klinowski led Niagara in the Paul Sort Run on October 5 at Lehigh, finishing the 6k in 22:15.4, a personal record. It was the third-best 6k time in program history.
  • Meggie Hart ran the 6k in a career-best 23:03.2. She ran the fifth-best 6k time in Niagara history history.
  • Annina Marullo set a personal record with a mark of 23:06.0.
  • Julia Freemire finished in 24:00.9. Elle Russell turned in a time of 24:51.6 and Emily Dembowski finished in 24:55.3. The times were personal bests for both Freemire and Russell.
  • Erin Murray (25:08.1), Emma Bagnato (26:26.4), Grace Kibler (26:46.6), Casey Roman (27:21.3) and Kelly Nichols (29:01.9) also competed in the 6k and Murray and Bagnato's scores were personal bests.
  • The top-five finishers average time of 23:28 was the fastest team time in program history.
  • The team finished ahead of Canisius by coming in 36th overall.
 
Pre-Race Notes (Men)
  • Ryan DeLola paced the Purple Eagles in the Men's College Brown Division 8k at Lehigh, finishing with a time of 26:26.0, which set a new personal record.
  • Spencer Swoboda finished second for the Purple Eagles with a time of 28:01.6, his best career 8k result.
  • Joseph Tricarico finished with a time of 28:31.9.
  • In the same event, Bobby Adams finished in 29:03.7, Kevin Verdejo finished with a career-best time of 29:17.0, Andrew Bloom ran the event in 29:23.3, which is a personal record, and William Schwarzmueller finished with a time of 30:03.7.
 
About the Canisius Alumni Classic
  • The race is set to be held in Delaware Park in Buffalo. Runners will start at Ashkers in the Park, at the corner of Nottingham Terrace and Meadow Drive.
  • The field includes Buffalo, Buffalo State, Canisius, Cornell, Daemen, Detroit Mercy, Niagara, RIT, Robert Morris, Geneseo, Youngstown State, and UB Club.
  • Last season's Canisius Alumni Classic saw three men's runners (Tricarico, Danny Leskowicz, and Justin Sagasta) set personal bests. Verdejo's race was the first 8k of his career.
  • Klinowski's time of 18:37 last season was a top-five all-time finish among Niagara runners. She topped Nicole Mehlman's mark from the 2010 edition by eight seconds to land the third-fastest 5k score in program history.
