Undefeated Lacrosse Plays Marquette Saturday

The Niagara University women's lacrosse team looks to continue its undefeated start to the season on the road against Marquette University on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
  • The Purple Eagles defeated Duquesne, 17-14, to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2005.
  • Caroline Crump scored career-high seven goals against the Dukes. She scored the most in a single game thus far in the MAAC.
  • Rachel MacCheyne (2G, 2A), Jillian Ford (2G), and Hailey D'Hont (2G) all recorded multi-point games for the Purple Eagles.
  • Lauren Paul was a defensive standout again, registering four groundballs and two caused turnovers. MacCheyne led the team with five draw controls, followed by Alexandra Higgins with four.
  • Niagara bested Duquesne in shots (42-34), caused turnovers (11-9), and ground balls (22-18).
     
Crump Named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
  • Junior attacker Caroline Crump was named MAAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week announced on February 27.
  • Crump led the Purple Eagles in goals (11) and points (11) as they went 2-0 with wins against St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. Crump scored four goals on five shots on goal in the victory at St. Bonaventure.
  • Crump netted a career-high seven goals, which are the most in the MAAC, including the go-ahead goal in Niagara's win at Duquesne.
 
On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles (3-0, 0-0 MAAC) 
  • Crump leads the team in goals (12), shots (29), and is second with points (13). MacCheyne has the team lead with 14 points this season (9G, 5A).
  • After scoring seven goals against Duquesne on Feb. 25, Crump was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Through the first three games, Niagara is second in the nation in caused turnovers per game (14.33) and ground balls per game (29.33), third in the MAAC in draw controls per game (13.33), fourth in the MAAC and tenth in the NCAA in saves percentage (.518).
  • The Purple Eagles are one of 15 teams undefeated in the nation to this point in the season.
  • Lauren Paul ranks tied for third in the NCAA with five ground balls per game. She leads the team with 15 ground balls this year. Alexandra Higgins is second on the team with 11 ground balls.
  • The Purple Eagles look to start the season 4-0 for the first time in program history.
 
On the Field: Marquette Golden Eagles (3-3, 0-0 Big East)
  • This is the first meeting all-time between the Purple Eagles and the Golden Eagles.
  • Marquette have started the season 3-0 at home with wins over Central Michigan (19-7), Kennesaw State (15-10) and Stetson (22-12).
  • The Golden Eagles have lost two of its three games this season against nationally ranked opponents. Marquette fell on opening day at No. 22 Johns Hopkins 14-7 and are headed into Saturday's match against the Purple Eagles off the heels of a 15-10 road loss at No. 17 Notre Dame.
  • Grace Gabriel leads the team with 22 goals and 24 points. She ranks tied for third in the NCAA and tied for sixth in those categories, respectively.
  • Allison Lane (13), Riley Hill (10) and Charlotte McGuire (10) have scored double-digit goals for the Golden Eagles this season.
  • Lane ranks second in the Big East in ground balls per game (3.83) and draw controls per game (6).
