Purple Eagles Visit Duquesne Sunday

The Niagara University women's lacrosse team continues its five-game road trip against the Duquesne Dukes on Sunday, February 25 at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out
  • The Purple Eagles defeated Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure, 16-6, to improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 2005 season.
  • Rachel MacCheyne continued her strong start to the season with three goals and two assists.
  • Caroline Crump (4G), Shea Swartwout (3G), Grace Hunt (G, 3A), Samantha Brill (2G), and Jillian Ford (G, A) all registered multi-point games.
  • Lauren Paul had a team-high four ground balls.
  • Niagara outdueled St. Bonaventure in every category, including advantages in shots (31-22), ground balls (28-21), draw controls (17-6), and saves (12-9).

On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles (2-0, 0-0 MAAC)
  • Through two games, Niagara leads the MAAC in draws controls per game (13.5), scoring defense (6.5), scoring margin (5.5), ground balls per game (33.0), and saves percentage (.606). NU is tied for first in the nation in caused turnovers per game (16.0).
  • Rachel MacCheyne leads the team with 10 points (7G, 3A), 17 shots, and 13 draw controls.
  • Lauren Paul and Alexandra Higgins are both in double-digit ground balls for 11 and 10, respectively. Paul leads the MAAC and is fifth in the nation with 5.5 ground balls per game.  
  • The Purple Eagles are seeking their first 3-0 start since 2005.
On the Field: Duquesne Dukes (0-2, 0-0 A-10)
  • The Dukes are 0-2 on the season with defeats to Robert Morris (10-9) and at No. 12 Penn State (19-8).
  • Senior attacker Jill Vacanti leads the Dukes with five points (3 G, 2 A) and junior midfielder Sarah Kollhoff  leads the team in goals with four.  
  • Junior defender Erin Conway has recorded team-highs of nine ground balls and six caused turnovers
