NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Purple Eagles lacrosse team begins its 2018 season on Saturday, Feb. 17, hosting the Binghamton Bearcats at 1:00 p.m.

2017 Season in Review
- Last season, Niagara finished the regular season 9-10 (5-3 MAAC) and claimed the fourth overall seed in the MAAC Championships. The Purple Eagles hosted the Monmouth Hawks in a home playoff game in the first round of the MAAC Championships and displayed a dominant performance, winning the game 16-4. Niagara faced off with cross-town rival and top-seeded Canisius in the MAAC semifinals and were defeated by the Griffs, 16-6.
- After starting the season 4-7, Niagara won four of its last six games, finishing with nine total wins, which is the second-highest win total in program history, for the second straight season.
- Niagara's high powered offense managed to score in double digits in 13 of their 19 games in 2017.
- The Purple Eagles reached the MAAC Championship semifinals for the first time since 2003 and recorded their first postseason win since 2001.
- Rachel MacCheyne broke two single-season scoring records in 2017, finishing the season with a program-best 53 goals and 67 points.
- Alexandra Higgins was named the 2017 MAAC Defender of the Year after an outstanding season and was unanimously selected to the All-MAAC First Team at defense. Higgins set single-season program records in ground balls (58), draw controls (111) and caused turnovers (37).
2018 Preseason Honors
- Niagara was selected fourth in the MAAC's preseason coaches' poll.
- MacCheyne and Higgins were the only two players to be unanimously selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
Last Meeting with Binghamton
- The Purple Eagles and the Bearcats last met on March 22, 2017. Niagara fell to Binghamton, 11-10.
- Niagara allowed the first five goals of the game early in the first half before answering with five of their own to tie the game at 5-5 early in the second half. The teams went back and forth all game before Binghamton scored the game-winner with two minutes left in regulation.
