NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's swimming and diving team kicks off the new year with its first meet of 2018 this Saturday, Jan. 13, on the road against the University at Buffalo Bulls. Niagara and Buffalo both competed at the Zippy Invite to close the first half of the season from Dec. 2-4, 2017.
Last Time Out
- The Purple Eagles women's team finished ninth at the Zippy Invite in their last time in the pool.
- Hannah Charlton broke her own record in the 200 butterfly twice on the final day of the invite, swimming a 2:07.39 in the preliminary round before topping that time with a 2:06.70 in the finals.
- The relay team of Julia Casolo, Yvonne Schere, Isabella DeSimone and Hayley Tasselmyer set a school record in the 400 free relay, finishing the event in 3:31.72 to break the previous record of 3:33.45 set last season. Casolo, Tasselmyer, DeSimone, and Lauren Nicastro finished 15th in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.17.
- On the second day of the event, Charlton also swam a 57.57 in the 100 butterfly to improve upon her program top-10 time.
- The relay team of Nicastro, Tasselmyer, Casolo and DeSimone set a Niagara record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:55.50. They placed 15th in the event overall on the first day of the invite. The team of Kristen Suarez, Annie Eckhardt, Charlton and Schere placed 18th in the same event, finishing in 4:02.43.
Last Time Against Buffalo
- Casolo led the Purple Eagles during last season's dual meet with Buffalo on Jan. 14, 2017, earning a third-place finish in the 150 butterfly at 1:35.49.
- Casolo also finished fourth in the 50 free at 25.61.
- Nastassja Posso led the way in the 150 free at 1:28.02.
- The Niagara women were led by Sydney Kligys, Bridgette Ehrmann, Charlton, and Casolo in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.98.
