Niagara Strolls To Seventh Straight Victory

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles volleyball team put in a dominant performance en route to sweeping the Siena Saints on Sunday to extend its winning streak to seven matches.

Match Summary
Niagara made quick work of the Saints. The Purple Eagles ran out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set and eventually led 18-5 on their way to a 25-7 set win. Niagara held Siena to a -.200 hitting percentage while NU had a .348 hitting percentage. The second set saw Niagara once again sprint out to a commanding lead. The Purple Eagles led 9-1, with Nicole Matheis providing three kills during the run. A strong service game by Emilie Wright provided seven straight points to build a 20-4 advantage. A kill by Nicole Matheis, her fifth of the set, capped of the set at 25-11. The third set was closer despite Niagara hitting a match-best .360 (11 kills, two errors on 25 attacks). Niagara kept Siena at bay throughout the set on its way to victory.   
 
Eagle's Eye On…
  • Nicole Matheis had a match-high nine kills and a team-high 10 digs. She led the match with 11 points.
  • Grace Hetterscheidt notched a career-high seven kills on eight attempts for a .875 hitting percentage.
  • Alexis Gray led NU with 13 assists.
 
Inside The Numbers
  • Niagara's seven match win streak is its longest since the 2011 season.
  • The Purple Eagles won their first regular season match against Siena since 2012. Niagara snapped a skid to Siena on its home court in the 2015 MAAC Quarterfinals.
  • NU is 4-0 in the MAAC for the first time since 2011.
  • Niagara finished the match with a season-best .310 hitting percentage.
  • The Purple Eagles had an 83 percent (31-for-37) sideout.
