Last-Second 3-Pointer Lifts Niagara Over ARBA San Ramon

SAN RAMON, COSTA RICA – The Purple Eagles began their foreign tour of Costa Rica with a dramatic last-second win over Costa Rican Liga (LBS) leaders ARBA San Ramon, 74-73, on Monday night.

Game Summary
Matt Scott drained a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining to push Niagara ahead. NU defense made the game's final stop on the en suing inbound play when Chris Barton intercepted the pass as Niagara escaped San Ramon with the win.

Tonight was the first of two games the Purple Eagles will play in Costa Rica as part of their foreign tour activities. The NCAA allows programs to embark on foreign tours once every four years. Niagara's trip to Costa Rica gives NU an opportunity to get a head start on preparations for the 2017-18 season. The games in Costa Rica are played under International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules with includes four 10-minute quarters, 24 seconds shot clock, and swatting/tipping the ball on the rim.

Niagara led 19-18 after a fast-paced first quarter, and led 25-24 with under six minutes left in the second quarter. ARBA closed the half on a run to take a 44-41 halftime lead. NU closed the third quarter on a run of its own, behind Marvin Prochet and Scott, and went into the fourth quarter up 65-62.

NU maintained its lead until the final two minutes as both teams exchanged the lead down the stretch. Niagara had possession trailing 73-71 with six seconds remaining, when Dominic Robb passed the ball to Scott who drilled a 3-pointer, which proved to be the game-winner.
