Purple Eagles Welcome Siena Tuesday Night

The Niagara Purple Eagles are back at the Gallagher Center to face the Siena Saints on Tuesday, January 26 at 7 p.m. which will air live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Scene Setter
•  NU opened 2016 with a 75-63 setback to the Siena Saints at the Times Union Center.
•  The 95th all-time meeting between the programs had 11 lead changes and the Purple Eagles led at halftime. However, a Siena run in the second half lifted the Saints to their sixth straight win in the series.
•  The series with the Saints has been one of streaks recently. The Purple Eagles won four straight from 2011-13, but have lost the last six meetings.
•  NU has had success at home in the series, winning five of the last seven home encounters.
 
Tipoff Tidbits
•  Niagara begins a stretch of three games in five days. After playing Siena on Tuesday, the Purple Eagles will play at Marist on Thursday and Quinnipiac on Saturday.
•  Niagara is third in the MAAC in overall scoring defense (69.8) and is on pace for its lowest points per game allowed total since the 2009-10 season (69.4).
•  Through nine league games, the Purple Eagles lead the MAAC in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.311) and are second in scoring defense (66.0).
•  Niagara made a season-high 22 free throws at Manhattan on January 17.
•  Matt Scott has led the team in scoring in the last three games while averaging 19.3 points per game. Scott is also averaging 8.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 82.8 percent (24-for-29) from the free-throw line including making a Purple Eagle season-high 11 against Canisius.
•  Matt Scott had his fourth 20-point game of the season with a game-high 20 points against Canisius. Scott's four 20-point games are tied for 10th in the MAAC.

•  In Niagara's win over Manhattan on January 9, the Purple Eagles outrebounded the Jaspers with a season-high 46 rebounds to 27, including 19 offensive rebounds.
•  The plus-19 rebounding margin is the largest since having a plus-24 advantage at Siena on Feb. 25, 2006; the 19 offensive rebounds are the most since having 21 at Iona on Jan. 4, 2014. 
•  The 46 rebounds are the most since grabbing 48 against Iona on Feb. 7, 2014.
 
May The Fourth Be With You
•  Matt Scott collected his fourth double-double of the season and in his career with team-highs in scoring with 17 and in rebounds with 10 at Fairfield on January 15.
•  Scott's four double-doubles are tied for third in the MAAC.
•  Scott's four double-doubles are the most by a Purple Eagle guard since Anthony Nelson had four, including a triple-double, during the 2010-11 season. 
 
On The Court
Siena Saints (13-7, 6-3 MAAC)
•  Siena is 4-1 in its last five games overall and 2-3 in its five road MAAC contests.
•  The Saints have five players averaging in double figures: inactive player Marquis Wright (17.3), Brett Bisping (15.0), Javion Ogunyuemi (14.1), Lavon Long (11.5) and Nico Clareth (11.4). 
•  Siena leads the MAAC in field goal percentage, rebounding defense, rebounding margin and blocked shots.
•  With a win, the Saints would have consecutive MAAC road victories for the first time since February 2014 (Rider and Quinnipiac).

•  After winning six of eight including four straight games, Niagara has lost the last six meetings to the Saints.

Blackman Makes #SCTOP10
•  Emile Blackman's baseline dunk against Canisius on January 22 made ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays.
•  Blackman, whose dunks have garnered national attention, drove past his defender for a one-handed slam dunk which was selected as the No. 6 play on the night.
•  It's the second straight season a dunk by Blackman has made #SCTop10; each time against Canisius.
