Complete Meet ResultsBUFFALO, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles men's and women's swimming and diving teams both lost in their meets with the Canisius Golden Griffins Saturday morning at the Burt Flickinger Center. The men's team lost a tight race by a 153-147 score, while the women's team was defeated 189-98.
"We were able to find some success and split the men's meet at eight events each," head coach
Ben Nigro said. "While we were dominant in the relays, Canisius' depth came through for them and they earned a six-point victory. Canisius' women's team was just too strong for us. I expect to see them near the top of the conference in two weeks at the MAAC Championship."
The Niagara men won eight events in total, including both relay events. The team of
Eric Ebert,
Nicolas Winograd,
Shawn Warner, and
Robert Brown finished the 200 medley relay in 1:55.82, while Brown,
Nick Rogers,
James Crumm, and Ebert took first in the 400 free relay in 3:11.50. Warner took top honors in three individual events, winning the 200 IM with a 1:56.13, the 100 butterfly in 51.03, and the 200 butterfly in 1:54.25. Brown brought home two individual wins of his own, finishing with a 47.66 in the 100 free and a 21.30 in the 50 free.
Andreas Rintel (1:58.27) and Winograd (2:00.18) finished second and third, respectively, behind Warner in the 200 IM to give Niagara the top three finishes in that event. Crumm earned a second-place finish behind Brown in the 100 free with a time of 48.12.
For the women's swimmers and divers, their three wins were highlighted by the one-two finish from
Sydney Kligys and
Julia Casolo in the 100 butterfly. Kligys finished in exactly one minute, while Casolo finished just nine-hundredths of a second later. Kligys also earned two second-place finishes in the 50 free (25.13) and the 100 free (54.94). Kligys, Casolo,
Annie Eckhardt, and
Emily York earned a first-place finish with a 3:41.24 time in the 400 free relay.
Emma Pullano (2:22.01),
Clare Curran (2:22.95), and
Angelica Gordon (2:26.88) took the top three finishes in the women's 200 IM.

Bridgette Ehrmann, Casolo, and York took second in the 200 medley relay with a 1:55.47.
The Niagara divers were swept in the four events on the board, but took three second-place finishes.
Emily Deck earned a 198.45 on the one-meter dive for second place, and her counterpart
Cara Mergner finished second with a 197.24 in the three-meter event.
JaRon Williams finished second in the men's three-meter dive with a career-high score of 276.98.
