Women’s Lacrosse Welcomes Fairfield For Saturday Afternoon Tilt

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team will take on the Fairfield Stags in a Metro Atlantic Athletic match-up on Saturday, April 4 at Niagara Field with a 12 p.m. draw start.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
• Niagara enters Saturday's contest 4-7, having won its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 27 against Cincinnati after dropping a 14-7 decision to Lehigh in the season-opener. Despite keeping the score at 1-0 for the first 20 minutes of the contest and holding the No. 14 Ohio State to its third least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Purple Eagles fell in a 15-2 decision to the Buckeyes on Mar. 1.
• Niagara then dropped a 21-4 decision to the No. 4 Florida Gators on Mar. 7 before edging Stetson, 10-9. The Purple Eagles fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 15-8, on Mar. 14 before taking down Little 3 Rival St. Bonaventure, 16-12. NU fell in a two close decisions to Robert Morris (12-10) and Binghamton (9-7). Niagara dropped its first conference matchup to the Monmouth Hawks, 12-7, before defeating the Iona Gaels in a 10-7 decision on Mar. 28.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through seniors Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Erin Patenaude as well as sophomore Taylor Wolf.  Farrugia leads the squad with 21 goals and seven assists, while her teammates Wolf (18 goals, four assists) and Patenaude (11 goals, eight assists) are second and third on the team in points, respectively. 
• Hannah Barnett and Molly Gray have also chipped in on offense for the Purple Eagles. Barnett has eight goals and four assists while Gray stands with seven goals and three assists on the season thus far. Freshman Grace Hunt has also contributed four goals and six assists.
• Danielle Maio leads the way with 31 draw controls won, while Barnett has caused 11 turnovers for the Purple and White. Furthermore, Maio has added eight goals and three assists for NU.
• Andrea Francisco has played just under 520 minutes after the 11 games this season, making 65 saves for a 3-5-0 record. Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State. Overall, the sophomore has made 15 saves in 140 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 13.26 and a save percentage of .326.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• Sophomore Taylor Wolf registered a career-high five goals, helping the Niagara women's lacrosse team to its first conference victory of the season with a 10-7 decision over the Iona Gaels. Additionally, the win snapped an eight game losing streak to Iona that started after Niagara's last win in 2006.
• Wolf also recorded an assist on the afternoon, finishing with a single game-high six points.  Danielle Maio was also a force on the offensive end with a trio of goals and one assist, while Carrie-Jo Farrugia added two goals to the score sheet for NU.
• Sophomore goalie Andrea Francisco made a season-high 11 saves to collect her third win of the season in the Niagara cage.  The Purple Eagles held a 22-16 advantage in ground balls, while the teams were knotted at 23 shots apiece.

ABOUT FAIRFIELD
• Fairfield is coming off four consecutive wins against Manhattan, Holy Cross, Siena and Iona. The Stags are 8-3 overall and have scored a total of 99 goals in 11 games overall this season.
• Sophomore Alex Fehmel leads the Stags with 30 points on the 2015 campaign with 19 goals and 11 assists. Four other players have reached double digit goals this season including Julieanne Mascera with 16.
• Goaltender Chelsey Sidaras has seen the majority of the time between the pipes, posting a 6.26 goals against average with 86 saves.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE STAGS

•  Saturday's game will be the 19th time the two sides face each other, as the Stags own a commanding 18-0 all-time series lead.
• Last time the squads met was on March 29, 2014 with Fairfield handing the Purple Eagles a 19-7 loss.  Maria Battista led the way for Niagara with three goals on the day, while Danielle Maio added three points off two goals and an assist.  Paige Matecki and Erin Patenaude chipped in with a goal apiece, and Carrie-Jo Farrugia had one assist in the losing effort.
• Overall, the Stags collected a 22-to-11 advantage in groundballs, as well as a 31-to-14 advantage shots.  The draw control race between NU and Fairfield was deadlocked at 14 wins apiece.

CALLING ALL ALUMNI
The Purple Eagles will be hosting an alumni game and celebration on Saturday April 18th.  Alumni will face off at 1pm (odd years vs. even years), with the 2015 team taking on MAAC foe Manhattan for Senior Day at 4pm. 
The lacrosse alums are then welcomed at the Brickyard Pub in Lewiston, N.Y. for appetizers and an opportunity to meet the team immediately following the game.

• Niagara wraps up its two-game home stand when it hosts the Marist Red Foxes on Wednesday, April 8 at Niagara Field.  The game is scheduled to being at 4 p.m.
