Niagara Heads To Siena To Wrap Up Regular Season

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team will head to Loudonville, N.Y. on Wednesday as the Purple Eagles face off against Siena at 4:00 p.m. in the regular season finale.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
• Niagara enters Wednesday's contest 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the MAAC after beating Manhattan, 18-12,  in its most recent outing at Niagara Field on Apr. 18.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through seniors Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Erin Patenaude as well as sophomore Taylor Wolf.  Farrugia leads the squad with 33 goals and 12 assists, while her teammates Wolf (30 goals, seven assists) and Patenaude (16 goals, 14 assists) are second and third on the team in points, respectively. 
• Molly Gray and Danielle Maio have added 20 points each for the Purple Eagles while Hannah Barnett has chipped in 12 goals and four assists on the season. Cailyn Negus has contributed 10 goals while Brittany Delano has added nine. Freshmen Jillian Ford and Grace Hunt have combined for 13 goals on the season thus far.
• Maio leads the way with 51 draw controls won, while Delano and has caused 17 turnovers for the Purple and White. Martin also leads NU with 39 groundballs.
• Andrea Francisco has played just over 695 minutes after the 16 games this season, making 90 saves for a 4-8-0 record.  Amanda Yavorek has made 31 saves in 262 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 12.81 and a save percentage of .356.
 
CAREER BESTS
• Sophomore goalie Andrea Francisco made a career-high 12 saves during the Niagara's game against Marist while Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State.
• In Niagara's win over Quinnipiac, Erin Patenaude scored a career-high four goals while Molly Gray added three assists to her three-goal effort for a career-high six points. Patenaude also contributed a career-high four assists against Canisius on Wednesday, April 15.
• Niagara scored a season-high in goals with an 18-12 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers while Carrie-Jo Farrugia and sophomore Taylor Wolf both set career-highs with six goals apiece.
 
TEAM STATS
• The Purple Eagles have scored 150 goals in the 16 games this season, seven of which were in double figures.  The team's best offensive output came in the win over Manhattan (April 18) where the team scored a season-high in goals (18) and assists (10).  The last time NU put together an 18-plus goal effort was on March 20, 2014 when the Purple and White handed the Bonnies an 18-13 beating.
• The team is averaging 9.38 goals per game while attempting 23.4 shots per game. Niagara also has 72 assists this season.
• Defensively, Niagara has allowed 12.69 goals per game with the opposition taking 26.7 shots per contest.  
• The Purple Eagles have picked up 298 ground balls and caused 132 turnovers.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Purple Eagles celebrated their seniors this past Saturday at Niagara Field in the final home game of the season.  The game went in favor of the host as NU pocketed its third conference win of the season with an 18-12 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers.
• Senior Carrie-Jo Farrugia and sophomore Taylor Wolf both set career-highs with six goals while Farrugia added a team-high three assists as well. The Purple Eagles also got offensive contributions from Erin PatenaudeHannah BarnettMolly GrayJaclyn SchreiberCailyn Negus and Jillian Ford.
• The Purple Eagles edged the Jaspers in shots (39-21), draw controls (17-15), ground balls (21-16) and caused turnovers (13-8).
• Niagara goaltender Andrea Francisco posted six saves in the game while her counterpart, Christin Fiorinelli, made nine saves against NU. 

ABOUT SIENA
• The Saints are 9-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play after recently topping Quinnipiac in a 14-9 decision on Apr. 18.
• Erin Mossop is Siena's leading point scorer, with a team-high 33 goals and 18 assists. Lauren Smith is second with 31 goals and three assists, while Alyssa Treanor and Sarah Croutier are tied in third in points (33). Julia Sirianni leads the team with 40 groundballs and 63 draw controls won.
• Goaltending duties have been given to Danielle DeLisio who has played and started in all but one game. DeLisio holds a 9.96 goals against average and a .461 save percentage.
 
ALL-TIME VS. THE SAINTS

• Niagara holds a slim 10-8 advantage over the Saints in the all-time series that dates back to 1997. Siena has taken six of the last nine games. 
• Last season's meeting ended in a Niagara victory after the Purple Eagles edged the Saints 9-8 on April16. Brittany Delano scored the go-ahead goal with 8:05 left in regulation off a feed from Kayla Smith. Carrie-Jo Farrugia finished with a game-high four goals to go along with one assist.
• Niagara's defense stood tall to finish the contest, holding the Saints to just four shots over the final 12:35. Overall, NU outshot Siena by a 28-15 margin. Niagara also held the edge in the ground ball battle 15-13. Andrea Francisco earned the win in net for Niagara, stopping four shots.
• The last time NU won in Loudonville against the Saints was back in 2009 when the Purple Eagles came out with a 16-12 victory.     

PLAYOFF SCENARIOS
• Niagara has clinched a spot in the MAAC championships for the first time since 2003.  The Purple Eagles could finish fourth, fifth, or sixth, depending on Wednesday's results. NU would clinch the No. 4 seed in the six-team MAAC Tournament with a win in their regular season finale against Siena and a Marist loss to Manhattan. Should Niagara defeat the Saints, NU would host a MAAC Quarterfinals contest Saturday, April 25.
• If a three-way tie occurs (Niagara win, Marist win), the team with the fewest goals allowed would be seeded fourth, the second fewest seeded fifth and the most goals allowed seeded No. 6.
