Purple Eagles Host Manhattan On Saturday For Senior Day

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles wrap up the home portion of the season when they host the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday, April 18 at 4 p.m. during senior day.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
• Niagara enters Saturday's contest 5-10 (2-4 MAAC), having won its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 27 against Cincinnati after dropping a 14-7 decision to Lehigh in the season-opener. Despite keeping the score at 1-0 for the first 20 minutes of the contest and holding the No. 14 Ohio State to its third least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Purple Eagles fell in a 15-2 decision to the Buckeyes on Mar. 1.
• Niagara then dropped a 21-4 decision to the No. 4 Florida Gators on Mar. 7 before edging Stetson, 10-9. The Purple Eagles fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 15-8, on Mar. 14 before taking down Little 3 Rival St. Bonaventure, 16-12. NU fell in a two close decisions to Robert Morris (12-10) and Binghamton (9-7). Niagara dropped its first conference matchup to the Monmouth Hawks, 12-7, before defeating the Iona Gaels in a 10-7 decision on Mar. 28. NU fell 16-8 to the Fairfield Stags on Apr. 4 and suffered a 13-7 loss to Marist on Apr. 8 before beating Quinnipiac on Apr. 11, 16-11.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through seniors Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Erin Patenaude as well as sophomore Taylor Wolf.  Farrugia leads the squad with 27 goals and nine assists, while her teammates Wolf (24 goals, six assists) and Patenaude (15 goals, 13 assists) are second and third on the team in points, respectively. 
• Molly Gray and Danielle Maio have added 12 goals for the Purple Eagles while Hannah Barnett has chipped in 101 goals on the season.  Brittany Delano and Cailyn Negus have contributed nine goals while freshmen Grace Hunt and Jillian Ford stand with six goals on the season thus far.
• Maio leads the way with 47 draw controls won, while Delano and Kara Martin have caused 13 turnovers for the Purple and White. Martin also leads NU with 37 groundballs.
• Andrea Francisco has played just over 640 minutes after the 15 games this season, making 84 saves for a 3-8-0 record.  Amanda Yavorek has made 31 saves in 258 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 12.32 and a save percentage of .369.

SAYONARA, SENIORS
•  The senior class of Hannah BarnettBrittany DelanoCarrie-Jo FarrugiaEmily Fleetwood and Erin Patenaude will play in its final regular season game at Niagara Field on Saturday, Apr. 18.
• The five seniors have combined for 195 goals, 93 assists and 288 points in 61 games played.  Farrugia will leave NU ranked in the top-10 on Niagara's single-season goals and points list and will be in the top-10 of Niagara's career goals, assists and points record.  The attacker currently sits in third with 94 total goals and fourth in points with 146.
 
CAREER BESTS
• Sophomore goalie Andrea Francisco made a career-high 12 saves during the Niagara's game against Marist while Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State.
• Classmate Taylor Wolf's four goals in NU's season opener against Lehigh are a new career high, topping her previous high of three goals which occurred on three different occasions last season.
• In Niagara's win over Quinnipiac, Erin Patenaude scored a career-high four goals while Molly Gray added three assists to her three-goal effort for a career-high six points. Patenaude also contributed a career-high four assists against Canisius on Wednesday, April 15. 
 
TEAM STATS
• The Purple Eagles have scored 132 goals in the 15 games this season, six of which were in double figures.  The team's best offensive output came in the win over Quinnipiac (April 11) where the team tied a season-high in goals (16) and assists (8).  The last time NU put together a 16-plus goal effort was on March 27, 2015 when the Purple and White handed the Bonnies a 16-12 beating.
• The team is averaging 8.8 goals per game while attempting 22.3 shots per game. Niagara also has 62 assists this season.
• Defensively, Niagara has allowed 12.73 goals per game with the opposition taking 27.1 shots per contest.  
• The Purple Eagles have picked up 277 ground balls and caused 119 turnovers.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
• Most recently, the Purple Eagles fell to cross-town rival Canisus, 16-8, this past Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.
• Patenaude contributed a career-high four assists on the night while Maio added two goals and one assist for the Purple Eagles. Negus also chipped in two goals for NU.
• Gray finished the game with one goal and one assist, while Olivia Renner ended the game with a goal to mark her first point as a Purple Eagle. With the win, Canisius clinched the 2014-15 Battle of the Bridge series.
• Defensively, Maio led all players with three groundballs picked up while winning five draw controls for Niagara. Yavorek made seven saves for NU in 54 minutes of play.

ABOUT MANHATTAN
• Manhattan comes to Monteagle Ridge holding a 3-12 overall record, and a 0-6 conference mark with its last game ending in a 11-9 loss to Iona. 
• The Jaspers are led offensively by Megan Yarusso who has pocketed 24 goals and seven assists for 31 points. Kaitlyn Cunningham is not far behind with 17 goals on the season, while Claire Roediger has earned 19 points with 12 goals and seven assists.
• Christin Fiorinelli has been the go-to goaltender for Manhattan, playing and starting in all 14 games thus far.  She has made 119 saves so far for an 11.12 goals-against average and a .442 save percentage. 
 
ALL-TIME VS. THE JASPERS

• This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams in a series that dates back to 1997.  Manhattan owns a 13-5 advantage over the Purple and White.
• Last season's meeting ended in a Manhattan victory after the Jaspers edged the Purple Eagles 15-11 on Apr. 19.  The Purple Eagles were paced by Carrie-Jo Farrugia who pumped in three goals and added a pair of assists. Erin Patenaude, Kayla Smith and Brittany Delano were the other multi-point scorers for the Purple and White as the trio recorded two goals each. Maria Battista and Taylor Wolf also contributed a score each on the afternoon.
• Smith and Delano led the Purple Eagles' defensive effort as they each forced two turnovers, while four Purple Eagles picked up three groundballs each.  Smith and Paige Matecki combined for 12 draw control wins. Andrea Francisco posted eight saves before Amanda Yavorek stepped in with 7:42 remaining in regulation and pushed aside a pair of Jasper shots.  

ON DECK
• Niagara concludes the regular season on April 22 as the Purple Eagles travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on the Siena Saints at 3 p.m.
