Women’s Lacrosse Heads To Quinnipiac On Saturday

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team hits the road on Saturday as the Purple Eagles faceoff against the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.  The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
• Niagara enters Saturday's contest 4-9 (1-3 MAAC), having won its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 27 against Cincinnati after dropping a 14-7 decision to Lehigh in the season-opener. Despite keeping the score at 1-0 for the first 20 minutes of the contest and holding the No. 14 Ohio State to its third least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Purple Eagles fell in a 15-2 decision to the Buckeyes on Mar. 1.
• Niagara then dropped a 21-4 decision to the No. 4 Florida Gators on Mar. 7 before edging Stetson, 10-9. The Purple Eagles fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 15-8, on Mar. 14 before taking down Little 3 Rival St. Bonaventure, 16-12. NU fell in a two close decisions to Robert Morris (12-10) and Binghamton (9-7). Niagara dropped its first conference matchup to the Monmouth Hawks, 12-7, before defeating the Iona Gaels in a 10-7 decision on Mar. 28. NU fell 16-8 to the Fairfield Stags on Apr. 4 and most recently suffered a 13-7 loss to Marist on Apr. 8.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through seniors Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Erin Patenaude as well as sophomore Taylor Wolf.  Farrugia leads the squad with 26 goals and eight assists, while her teammates Wolf (20 goals, six assists) and Patenaude (11 goals, nine assists) are second and third on the team in points, respectively. 
• Brittany Delano has added nine goals while Hannah Barnett, Molly Gray and Danielle Maio have all chipped in eight goals for the Purple Eagles.  Freshman Cailyn Negus stands with seven goals on the season thus far while teammate Grace Hunt has also contributed six goals and eight assists.
• Maio leads the way with 35 draw controls won, while Delano has caused 12 turnovers for the Purple and White. Sophomore Kara Martin leads NU with 31 groundballs.
• Andrea Francisco has played just over 610 minutes after the 13 games this season, making 81 saves for a 3-7-0 record.  Amanda Yavorek has made 18 saves in 169 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 13.09 and a save percentage of .327.
 
CAREER BESTS
• Sophomore goalie Andrea Francisco made a career-high 12 saves during the Niagara's game against Marist while Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State.
• Classmate Taylor Wolf's four goals in NU's season opener against Lehigh are a new career high, topping her previous high of three goals which occurred on three different occasions last season.
 
TEAM STATS
•  The Purple Eagles have scored 108 goals in the 13 games this season, five of which were in double figures.  The team's best offensive output came in the win over St. Bonaventure (March 17) where the team pocketed season-highs in goals (16) and assists (7).  The last time NU put together a 16-plus goal effort was on March 20, 2014 when the Purple and White handed the Bonnies an 18-13 beating.
• The team is averaging 8.31 goals per game while attempting 21.6 shots per game. Niagara also has 48 assists this season.
• Defensively, Niagara has allowed 12.62 goals per game with the opposition taking 27.0 shots per contest.  
• The Purple Eagles have picked up 233 ground balls and caused 98 turnovers.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
• Niagara fell 13-7 to the Marist Red Foxes on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at Niagara Field. 
• The Red Foxes got on the board first just under two minutes into the contest however, the Purple Eagles answered with unassisted goal from senior Brittany Delano at the 26:36 mark to even the game at one apiece. Marist went on a four-goal run over the following 20 minutes giving the Red Foxes a 5-1 lead until Taylor Wolf grabbed her 19th goal of the season to make it 5-2 before heading into intermission.
Grace Hunt scored a man down goal assisted by Erin Patenaude, however, the Red Foxes tallied two unassisted goals to go up, 11-4. Niagara then went on a 3-1 run but the Red Foxes ended the contest with the last goal, giving Marist the 13-7 victory. 
• Sophomore goalie Andrea Francisco made a career-high 12 saves during the game.

ABOUT QUINNIPIAC
• The Bobcats head into the weekend's action with a 2-11 overall record and a 1-4 MAAC mark.  Quinnipiac's most recent outing ended in defeat, as the Iona Gaels topped the Bobcats, 16-7. 
• Quinnipiac is led by Kyra Ochwat, who has 45 points on 32 goals and 13 assists thus far on the season. Kathleen DeVito (23 goals, 10 assists) and Kelly Babstock (15 goals, nine assists) are second and third on the squad while Aileen Carey is fourth (16 goals, seven assists).  
• Kiera Kelly has scooped a team-high 28 groundballs, and has caused 13 opponent turnovers. 
• Samantha Tilts has compiled a 12.93 goals against average to go along with a .464 save percentage on the season. 
 
ALL-TIME VS. BOBCATS
• 
This will be the fourth meeting between Niagara and Quinnipiac, and second as MAAC foes.  The Bobcats won the first two meetings in the all-time series.  The first meeting came on March 19, 2000 where QU handed Niagara a 12-9 loss, while the second battle came two seasons later on March 9 which ended in a 13-7 loss for the Purple and White.
Niagara took a 15-11 victory in last year's conference matchup against the Bobcats. It also marked the final game of the 2014 season for NU.

SAYONARA, SENIORS
•  The senior class of Hannah BarnettBrittany DelanoCarrie-Jo Farrugia, Emily Fleetwood and Erin Patenaude will play in its final regular season game at Niagara Field on Saturday, Apr. 18.
• The five seniors have combined for 187 goals, 88 assists and 275 points in 59 games played.  Farrugia will leave NU ranked in the top-10 on Niagara's single-season goals and points list and will be in the top-10 of Niagara's career goals, assists and points record.  The attacker currently sits in third with 93 total goals and fourth in points with 144.

CALLING ALL ALUMNI
• The Purple Eagles will be hosting an alumni game and celebration on Saturday April 18th.  Alumni will face off at 1pm (odd years vs. even years), with the 2015 team taking on MAAC foe Manhattan for Senior Day at 4pm. 
• The lacrosse alums are then welcomed at the Brickyard Pub in Lewiston, N.Y. for appetizers and an opportunity to meet the team immediately following the game.
