NU Wraps Up Non-Conference Slate Against Binghamton

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team will take on the Binghamton Bearcats in their final non-conference match-up of the season on Monday, Mar. 23 at 3 p.m. at Niagara Field.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
•   Niagara enters Friday's contest 3-5, having won its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 27 against Cincinnati after dropping a 14-7 decision to Lehigh in the season-opener. Despite keeping the score at 1-0 for the first 20 minutes of the contest and holding the No. 14 Ohio State to its third least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Purple Eagles fell in a 15-2 decision to the Buckeyes on Mar. 1.
• Niagara then dropped a 21-4 decision to the No. 4 Florida Gators on Mar. 7 before edging Stetson, 10-9. The Purple Eagles fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 15-8, on Mar. 14 before taking down Little 3 Rival St. Bonaventure, 16-12. Most recently, NU fell in a close 12-10 decision to Robert Morris.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through seniors Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Erin Patenaude as well as sophomore Taylor Wolf.  Farrugia leads the squad with 15 goals and six assists, while her teammates Patenaude (eight goals, eight assists) and Wolf (12 goals, three assists) are second and third on the team in points, respectively. 
Hannah Barnett and Molly Gray have also chipped in on offense with seven goals and three assists each on the season.
•   Danielle Maio leads the way with 28 draw controls won, while Jillian Ford has caused seven turnovers for the Purple and White. 
•   Andrea Francisco has played just over 355 minutes after the eight games this season, making 41 saves for a 2-3-0 record. Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State. Overall, the sophomore has made 15 saves in 123 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 13.64 and a save percentage of .349.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Purple Eagles dropped a close 12-10 decision to Robert Morris on Friday, Mar. 20 at Niagara Field. 
• Senior Carrie-Jo Farrugia finished with five goals and one assist for a season-high of six points in the contest. Junior newcomer Molly Gray also recorded a season-high three goals for the Purple and White while teammates Erin Patenaude and Taylor Wolf added one goal apiece. Starting sophomore goalie Andrea Francisco made nine saves against one of the top-scoring Division I teams in the country, while Amanda Yavorek turned away one shot during her brief outing for NU.   
• Despite holding RMU to its second least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Colonials outshot Niagara 30-19. The Purple Eagles took a 19-13 advantages in ground balls while Robert Morris won 22 draw controls compared to two for NU.

ABOUT BINGHAMTOM
•   Binghamton is coming off a 13-12 overtime loss to University of Maryland Baltimore County on Saturday, March 21 to fall 3-5 on the season. Binghamton has now dropped four in a row, including losses to MAAC opponents Marist (11-9) and Siena (12-3).
•   On the season overall, Sophia Racciatti leads the team with 15 points (13 goals, two assists), while Renee Kiviat (12 goals, one assist) and Brianne Arthur (eight goals, four assists) respectively rank second and third on the team in total points.
• Valerie DeNapoli leads the squad with 18 ground balls and 21 draw controls, while Allie Rodger's 14 caused turnovers are a team-best.
• Emma Jehle and junior Erin McNulty have both seen time in net on the season. McNulty has posted a 3-5 record in net with 57 saves on the campaign.  
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BEARCATS

•   Monday's game will be the tenth time the two sides face each other with the all-time series in favor of Binghamton, 5-4.
•   In their last meeting on March 6, 2014, Binghamton defeated Niagara, 17-7.  The Purple Eagles fell into an 8-0 hole in the first 17 minutes of the contest from which they couldn't climb out of despite a late second half effort.
 
ON DECK
• The Purple Eagles begin conference play on Wednesday, March 25 when Niagara hosts the Monmouth Hawks at 2 p.m.
