Purple Eagles Finish Six-Game Road Stint At Michigan

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara University women's lacrosse team travels to face the University of Michigan this weekend to end its six-game road stint. The Purple Eagles will face the Wolverines on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Michigan Stadium.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
•   Niagara enters Saturday's contest 2-3, having won its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 27 against Cincinnati after dropping a 14-7 decision to Lehigh in the season-opener. Despite keeping the score at 1-0 for the first 20 minutes of the contest and holding the No. 14 Ohio State to its third least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Purple Eagles fell in a 15-2 decision to the Buckeyes on Mar. 1.
• Niagara then dropped a 21-4 decision to the No. 4 Florida Gators on Mar. 7 before edging Stetson, 10-9.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through sophomore Taylor Wolf and senior Hannah Barnett .  Wolf leads the squad with nine goals and two assists, while her teammate has pocketed six goals and three assists.  Senior Carrie-Jo Farrugia has also chipped in on offense with five goals and three assists while Erin Patenaude has added a trio of goals and assists on the young season.
•   Danielle Maio leads the way with 23 draw controls won, while Jillian Ford has caused five turnovers for the Purple and White. 
•   Andrea Francisco has played just under 200 minutes after the five games this season, making 19 saves for a 1-1-0 record. Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State. Overall, the sophomore has made 14 saves in 103 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 14.47 and a save percentage of .359.
 
LAST TIME OUT
•   Niagara wrapped up its trip in Florida earning its second win of the season with a close 10-9 victory over Stetson on March 11.
• The Purple Eagles were led by Hannah Barnett who finished with three goals and one assist for four points in the game.
• Niagara outshot the Hatters, 29-16, on the day and claimed an 18-17 advantage in ground balls. The Purple Eagles finished 10-of-13 in clear attempts and had 15 draw controls compared to Stetson's five.
Molly Gray and Carrie-Jo Farrugia both contributed three points in the game. Gray scored two goals and had one helper while Farrugia finished with one goal and two assists. Erin Patenaude added two goals while Taylor Wolf and Cailyn Negus contributed to the Niagara scoring attack with one goal each.
 
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
• The Wolverines are coached by second-year head coach Jennifer Ulehla. Michigan competed in its inaugural season in 2014 with a roster compiled solely of 27 freshmen. The 2015 roster includes 23 of those 27 original student-athletes, which are now sophomores, and also includes 12 new freshmen. The Wolverines return five players that started all 17 games last season.
• Michigan enters the game at 3-3 on the year, having bounced back after opening the season with a pair of losses. The Wolverines picked up a pair of wins during their Spring Break trip to California. Michigan rounded out the trip with a 22-8 win over St. Mary's. Most recently, Michigan dropped a 13-12 overtime decision to Virginia Tech.
• Jess Angerman, who has scored 15 goals this year, leads the Wolverines on offense. Anna Schueler adds 13 goals for Michigan, as well as a team-best 23 draws. Madeline Dion leads the way on defense with five caused turnovers, as well as adding 10 ground balls. In cage, Allison Silber boasts the team's record, allowing just over 11 goals per game.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
• This will be the first meeting between the Wolverines and Purple Eagles. 

ON DECK
•   The Purple Eagles open up a four-game home stand with a 4 p.m. matchup against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Tuesday, March 17 at Niagara Field.
