Purple Eagles Travel To Stetson For Midweek Matchup

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team (1-3) is set to take on Stetson (2-3) in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 11, in DeLand, Fla. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
•   Niagara enters Wednesday's contest 1-3, having won its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 27 against Cincinnati after dropping a 14-7 decision to Lehigh in the season-opener. Despite keeping the score at 1-0 for the first 20 minutes of the contest and holding the No. 14 Ohio State to its third least number of goals scored in a game all year, the Purple Eagles fell in a 15-2 decision to the Buckeyes on Mar. 1. Most recently, Niagara dropped a 21-4 decision to the No. 4 Florida Gators on Mar. 7.
• The Purple Eagles offense runs through sophomore Taylor Wolf and senior Carrie-Jo Farrugia.  Wolf leads the squad with eight goals and two assists, while her teammate has pocketed four goals and one assist.  Senior Hannah Barnett has also chipped in on offense with three goals and two assists while Erin Patenaude has added a team-high three assists on the young season.
•   Danielle Maio leads the way with 18 draw controls won, while Jillian Ford has caused five turnovers for the Purple and White. 
•   Andrea Francisco has played over 150 minutes after the four games this season, making 17 saves for a 1-1-0 record. Amanda Yavorek made a career best eight saves in NU's loss to Ohio State. Overall, the sophomore has made 14 saves in 82 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 14.64 and a save percentage of .412.
 
LAST TIME OUT
•   Despite holding the Gators scoreless over the final 10 minutes of the contest, Niagara was unable to get past the No. 4 Florida, falling 21-4.
•   Danielle Maio, Taylor Wolf, Molly Gray and Cailyn Negus all led the Purple Eagles in scoring with one goal apiece.
 
SCOUTING THE HATTERS
• The Hatters are coached by first-year head coach Christy Leach and has 17 returning letterwinners, along with eight newcomers.
• After a 15-4 loss to Coastal Carolina on Feb. 14, Stetson rebounded on Wednesday with a 16-3 win over Delaware State with the help of three goals by Rachel Valocchi and Samantha Akl. Most recently, Stetson picked up an 8-7 win over Presbyterian after falling, 10-11, to Cincinnati in overtime.
• So far this season, Valocchi, Lindsay Summers and Jill Chiachetti are tied for the team lead with six goals apiece. Freshman Hallie Merz leads the team and ranks fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference with eight assists. 
• Meghan Moran leads the way on defense with five caused turnovers, as well as eight ground balls. The Hatters have used a pair of goalies, with Whitney Meyers sporting a 2-2 record, a .500 save percentage and a 9.10 goals-against average. Caili Guilday is 0-1 with a .409 save percentage in 48 minutes of play.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
• This will be the first meeting between the Hatters and Purple Eagles. 

ON DECK
•   Niagara will wrap up its six-game road stint at Michigan with a 1 p.m. matchup against the Wolverines on Saturday, March 14 at the Michigan Stadium.
