Men's Basketball Heads To Marist For Friday Tilt

The Niagara Purple Eagles are back on the road this weekend beginning on Friday, Feb. 6 against the Marist Red Foxes at 7 p.m.

NU is coming off of a dramatic, double overtime victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats to snap a nine-game losing streak.

NU and Marist will meet for the second time in a week. The Red Foxes edged the Purple Eagles, 65-61, on Jan. 30 for their first win at the Gallagher Center since January 2007. Marist holds a slight +1.4 scoring margin (69.4-68.0 ppg) in the last five games with four of the last five meetings decided by less than six points. Niagara is 6-11 all-time at Marist, including winning two of the last five trips.

The Purple Eagles are in search of consecutive conference wins for first time since February 2013.
 
Tipoff Tidbits
•  Ramone Snowden leads the team in scoring (12.3 ppg), rebounds per game (6.3), blocks (10), steals (27), 3-pointers made (38), free throws made (63) and minutes per game (33.1). 
•  Snowden has scored in double figures in the last nine games (14.9 points per game).
•  In his last six games, Emile Blackman is averaging a team-best 17.3 points while shooting a team-high 49 percent. Blackman is leading NU in scoring in conference games with 12.8 per contest.
•  Karonn Davis set a new career-best in assists with a game-high nine versus Quinnipiac on Feb. 1 to set career-highs in assists in consecutive games. The nine assists are the most by a Purple Eagle since Juan'ya Green had nine against Saint Peter's on March 2, 2013.
•  Davis has had at least five assists in four of the last five games and has 27 assists to four turnovers in the last five games.
•  Dominique Reid was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Feb. 2 after averaging 15.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game in versus Marist and Quinnipiac.
•  Reid collected his second career double-double with a career-high 20 points and game-high 10 rebounds versus Quinnipiac on Feb. 1. He joins teammate Ramone Snowden as the on the Purple Eagle with double-doubles this season.
•  NU shot 67 percent from the field in the first half against Manhattan on Jan. 10 for its highest percentage in a half since shooting 67 percent in the second half against Northwestern State on Feb. 2, 2013.
•  Niagara's 105 points against Quinnipiac are tied for 27th most by a team in a MAAC game.
•  The Purple Eagles had season-highs in first half points (42), field goal percentage (59.5%), 3-point field goal percentage (53.8%) and in assists (21) in the win over Manhattan.
•  Niagara's 22 assists against Quinnipiac on Feb. 1 are the most since having 23 versus Marist on February 6, 2011.
•  According to KenPom.com, Niagara is the FIFTH youngest team in the nation. NU has 12 underclassmen on the roster.

Marist Red Foxes (4-18, 3-9 MAAC)
•  After starting the season 1-18, Marist enters the game on a three-game winning streak with victories over Fairfield (Jan. 25), Niagara (Jan. 30) and Canisius (Feb. 1).
 • The Red Foxes' Chavaughn Lewis is second in the MAAC with 20.7 ppg, and was recently named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week, ECAC Player of the Week, and the MAAC Player of the Week.
•  Outside of Lewis, Marist is led by Khallid Hart (14.6 ppg), Phillip Lawrence (9.4 ppg), and T.J. Curry (8.7 ppg).

•  The Purple Eagles are 38-25 in the month of February since the 2006-07 season, including a 24-11 mark at the Gallagher Center.
 
Reid Garners MAAC Rookie Of The Week
•  Forward Dominique Reid was tabbed as MAAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week announced by the league on Feb. 2
•  Reid averaged 15.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game as the Purple Eagles split their home MAAC weekend.
•  Reid led Niagara in scoring with a career-high 20 points and led NU with 10 rebounds en route to his second career double-double in the double overtime win over Quinnipiac.
•  Reid played in 42 minutes and made a career-best 10 of 12 free throws. Reid scored seven of his 20 points in the two overtime periods, including making two free throws to tie the game at 92-92 with 28 seconds left to send the game into the second overtime.
 
Let's Play Two (Overtimes)
•  Niagara defeated Quinnipiac, 105-100, in double overtime on Feb. 1 at the Gallagher Center.
•  It was Niagara's first double overtime game since falling to Loyola (Md.), 89-87 on Feb. 2, 2013.
•  The Purple Eagles previous win in two overtimes was against Rider in the 2009 MAAC Tournament Semifinals, 93-89.
