Live Stats | Live Audio | Live Video | Game Notes

The Purple Eagles ice hockey team returns to Dwyer Arena to host a non-conference opponent for the second consecutive Friday. After last week's thrilling game with Cornell that ended in a 3-2 overtime loss, Niagara hosts the Penn State Nittany Lions on November 6. Opening face-off is set for 7:05 p.m.

Last Time Out
  • Niagara played a thrilling game Friday night, hosting the Cornell Big Red for the first time ever at Dwyer Arena, but lost 3-2 in overtime.
  • Luke Edwards kicked off Friday's scoring just 22 seconds into the game with a long slap shot from the left boards.
  • Dan Kolenda picked up his second goal of the season, deflecting a point shot from Vinny Muto.
  • Niagara lost the game off a defensive miscue that left Cornell's Christian Hilbrich alone in front of the net for the game-winner.
  • Guillaume Therien made 32 saves on the night, giving him four 30-save games in five appearances.
  • The Purple Eagles traveled to Cornell the next night and lost 4-0.
  • Niagara was outshot in that game 33-19, but they outshot Cornell 10-5 in the third period.

Vinny's Back, Tell a Friend
  • Junior defenseman Vinny Muto missed 14 games due to injury in 2014-15, but his play is returning to the level he displayed during his All-Rookie freshman campaign.
  • Through his first six games of 2015-16, Muto is tied for the team lead in points (4) and blocked shots (12) and owns the team lead in shots on goal (14) and assists (4).
  • Muto's four points on the season rank him tied for seventh among Atlantic Hockey defensemen.

Scouting the Nittany Lions
  • The Division I men's hockey program at Penn State began play in the 2012-13 season, and this is Niagara's first meeting with the Nittany Lions.
  • Penn State and Niagara both have very old teams, as the Purple Eagles (22 years, 100 days) and Nittany Lions (22 years, 85 days) have the fourth and fifth oldest teams in the nation, respectively.
  • Only six teams in the NCAA have more seniors on their roster than Penn State's eight.
  • Penn State is one of only three NCAA ice hockey teams that have begun D-I competition since Niagara joined in 1996, with Robert Morris and Arizona State being the other two.
  • Penn State freshman Andrew Sturtz is a native of Buffalo, N.Y.
  • The Nittany Lions have already earned wins over Notre Dame (5-3) and Canisius (6-1) this season, while also tying 15th-ranked St. Lawrence at home.
  • Curtis Loik leads Penn State in scoring with 10 points (3+7) in seven games, while freshman Chase Berger's five goals are the most in the Big 10 and tied for first among all NCAA freshmen.
