Live VideoAfter failing to pick up a win in last week's two-game homestand, the Purple Eagles' men's soccer team takes a short road trip for possibly their biggest game of the season. The Battle of the Bridge pits Niagara against their local rivals, the Golden Griffins of Canisius College. The game kicks off from the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, NY Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN3.
Last Time Out- In a tightly-contested matchup, the Purple Eagles surrendered the only goal of the game in a 1-0 loss to fourth-ranked Saint Peter's.
- An errant header by a Niagara defender in the 29th minute created a golden chance in the box for Saint Peter's Louis Mobbs. Niagara goalkeeper Colin Hanley just narrowly missed the shot, which Mobbs buried low to the far side.
- Hanley gave up that goal on the only shot he faced in the first half, but he made three second-half saves to keep his team within one goal.
- Jordy Robins had Niagara's best chance of the game early in the second half, but the midfielder's rising shot was deflected over the net.
In the MAAC- At 0-5-1 in the MAAC, Niagara has a chance to earn their first conference win of the season against their closest rival.
- Alex Dimitriu sits at five goals on the season, which ranks sixth in the MAAC.
- The Purple Eagles rank fifth in the MAAC with 14 total assists this year.
Koslow Wins MAAC Honor- On Oct. 19, Brennan Koslow was named the MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week.
- Koslow, a sophomore, was named team captain entering this season and has two assists on the year.
- A pre-med major from Greenville, SC, Koslow has been involved in numerous community service projects with the team in his time at Niagara.
Across the Pitch: Canisius Golden Griffins (4-8-1 overall, 1-5-0 MAAC)- The Golden Griffins snapped a five-game losing streak in their last game, earning a 1-0 win over MAAC opponent Quinnipiac on Oct. 17.
- Niagara is 4-0-1 in their last five meetings with Canisius, including a 0-0 draw last season.
- The last time Niagara lost to Canisius was on Oct. 6, 2007, a 3-0 loss. The Purple Eagles won six consecutive matchups after that prior to last year's draw.
- Canisius ranks first in the MAAC with 14.38 shots per game, and Nicolo Baudo is third in the MAAC in individual shots per game with 2.77.
