Final ResultsNIAGARA UNIV., NY – For the second straight season, the Purple Eagles men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept their meet with the Blue Devils of Fredonia State University. The women's team defeated their counterparts from Fredonia 125-100, while the men's team took home a victory with a 137-93 score. Niagara swimmers and divers combined to win 20 of the 26 events on the day.
For the women's team,
Emily Altier swept the long-distance swims with times of 11:11.47 in the 1000 freestyle and 5:28.67 in the 500 free.
Emily York (2:01.21),
Maggie King (2:04.96), and
Marlane Hochgraf (2:06.30) finished as the top three swimmers in the 200 freestyle. Julio Casolo posted winning times in both the 50 freestyle (25.6) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.56).
Sydney Kligys placed as Niagara's top swimmer in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.26, finishing narrowly in second place behind Fredonia's Sam Rokos (55.19).
Brianna Smith also gave Niagara a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.98.
Daniel Ronen (10:09.59),
Justin Sagasta (10:23.82), and
Thomas McManus (10:40.06) claimed the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle. Ronen picked up a second win on the day with a time of 56.01 in the 100 butterfly.
Alexander Pizzo also won two events, posting the top time in the 200 freestyle (1:47.93) and the 500 freestyle (5:01.08).
Robert Brown finished less than one second off his program-record time of 20.75 seconds in the 50 freestyle against Fredonia, completing the race in 21.42.
Andreas Rintel (200 IM, 1:58.62),
James Crumm (100 freestyle, 47.93),
Eric Ebert (100 backstroke, 55.87), and
Nicolas Winograd (100 breaststroke, 1:00.22) also won events for the Purple Eagles.
Niagara relay teams claimed first place in all four relay events on Saturday as well. The team of Ebert, Winograd, Ronen, and Brown won the men's 200 medley relay in 1:39.26, while the 200 freestyle relay was won by Brown, Crumm, Ebert, and Danny Leskowicz with a time of 1:28.33. On the women's side, the team of Smith, Kligys, Eckhardt, and
Bridgette Ehrmann won the 200 medley relay event in 1:53.58, and the 200 freestyle relay team of York, Casolo, Kligys, and
Clare Curran finished first with a time of 1:43.82.
On the diving board,
Ryan Monteleone claimed first place in the men's 3-meter diving event with a score of 258.38.
Emily Deck finished second in both the women's 1-meter diving (201.45) and 3-meter diving (203.10) events.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will both compete in a three-team meet on Oct. 24 in Binghamton, NY against Binghamton University and Siena College.
