Men's Basketball Visits Monmouth Friday

The Niagara Purple Eagles are back on the road this weekend starting with a Friday night contest against the Monmouth Hawks at 7 p.m.
 
The Purple Eagles are coming off of two narrow defeats last weekend. NU was seconds away from beating Iona before falling 80-79 on Friday and dropped a back-and-forth game to Siena, 74-70, on Sunday.
 
After topping Monmouth in the first-ever meeting between the programs in 2008, the Purple Eagles have lost three straight in the series, all as MAAC foes.

Tipoff Tidbits
•  Dominique Reid had game and career-highs with 18 points and 11 rebounds en route to his first career double-double against Monmouth on Jan. 4. 
•  Emile Blackman led all scorers by tying a season-high with 21 points against Siena on Jan. 18. Blackman joins teammate Wes Myers as one of 20 MAAC players with multiple 20-plus games.
•  NU had season-highs 79 points and 42 rebounds while shooting a season-best 77.8 percent from the free-throw line against Iona.
•  Wesley Myers has scored in double figures in nine of the last 12 games. Myers set career-high scoring marks in consecutive games with 21 at Siena (Jan. 8) and 22 at Manhattan (Jan. 10)
•  Ramone Snowden is one of six players in the nation to lead his team in points (11.6 ppg), rebounds (6.0 rpg), blocks (nine) and assists (47).
•  NU shot 67 percent from the field in the first half against Manhattan on Jan. 10 for its highest percentage in a half since shooting 67 percent in the second half against Northwestern State on Feb. 2, 2013.
•  Matt Scott was named MAAC Rookie Of The Week on Jan. 5 after averaging 10 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game. Scott is the first freshman to win rookie of the week honors since TJ Cline won the award three times during the 2012-13 season.
•  Niagara had five players – Rayvon Harris, Ramone Snowden, Emile Blackman, Wesley Myers and Dominique Reid - in double figures against Arkansas State for the first time since Feb. 7, 2014 against Iona.
•  Snowden dished out a career-high seven assists against Arkansas State. The seven assists are the most since Tahjere McCall had seven versus Manhattan on Feb. 9, 2014.
•  The Purple Eagles had season-highs in first half points (42), field goal percentage (59.5%), 3-point field goal percentage (53.8%) and in assists (21) in the win over Manhattan.
•  Niagara's 21 assists against Manhattan on Jan. 2 are the most since having 21 versus Saint Peter's on March 2, 2013.
•  Niagara had a season-high +10 rebound margin in the win over Albany.
•  The Purple Eagles have used five different starting lineups this season and have had three different lineups the last three games.
•  According to KenPom.com, Niagara is the FIFTH youngest team in the nation. NU has 13 underclassmen on the roster.                
 
On The Court
Monmouth Hawks (10-9, 6-2 MAAC)
•  Monmouth is 3-2 since defeating Niagara on January 4
•  The Hawks are in a three-way tie for first place in the MAAC with Iona and Rider with a 6-2 record.
•  Monmouth is one of the tougher defensive teams in the league, ranking first in defensive field goal percentage (39.2),  first in steals per game (7.5), second in blocks per game (4.1) and third in scoring defense (63.1 ppg).
•  Two Hawks are in double-figures scoring - Justin Robinson (12.4) and Deon Jones (11.8).
•  Robinson, who also leads the team in assists, is first in the MAAC in assist/turnover ratio (2.3).
 
Against the Hawks (Monmouth leads, 3-1)
•  The first meeting between the two programs was during the 2008-09 season, which Niagara won 71-48 in the Philly Hoop Group Classic in Philadelphia, Pa.
•  The Purple Eagles have lost the last three meetings, including a 66-50 decision on January 4 at the Gallagher Center.

NIAGARA UNIV., NY – The Niagara Purple Eagles had their two-game winning streak snapped in a 66-50 defeat to the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday afternoon on the Frank & Barbara Layden Court at the Gallagher Center.
 
Garden Party! Niagara To Play At Madison Square Garden
•  Niagara's Jan. 25 matchup with the Iona Gaels will be played at the legendary Madison Square Garden. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will be preceded by Duke versus St. John's.
•  Niagara has a 24-24 all-time record at MSG, including a 1-1 record versus Iona.
