Women’s Lacrosse Welcomes Siena For Wednesday Afternoon Tilt

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team will take on Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic match-up on Wednesday, Apri. 16 at 3 p.m. Niagara Field.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
•  The Purple Eagles  began their two-game home stand on Saturday, Apr. 12, falling to Iona, 13-11.  With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Niagara holds a 1-3 MAAC record and a 5-7 overall mark.
•   Carrie-Jo Farrugia continues to be at the forefront of the Purple Eagles' attack, collecting a team and career-high 36 points off a career-high 26 goals with 11 assists to her name as well.  The offense has also been headlined by Maria Battista who has dished out 24 goals to go along with two helpers.  Erin Patenaude and Danielle Maio have chipped in with 14 and 10 goals, respectively. 
•  Kayla Smith leads the way with 46 draw controls won, while Paige Matecki has secured 45.  Smith, Matecki and Kara Martin have been effective on the defensive end, causing a combined 25 turnovers. 
•  Freshman goalkeeper Andrea Francisco has played in 11 games thus far.  She holds a 13.72 goals against average and a .360 save percentage, with 64 saves to her name.
 
LAST TIME OUT
•  The Purple Eagles were able to erase a four-goal deficit to knot the game at seven apiece with 20 minutes remaining in regulation last Saturday, but Niagara eventually fell to Iona, 13-11, in MAAC play.
•  Seniors Kayla Smith and Maria Battista combined for five goals, with Smith pocketed a career-high three goals and Battista adding two goals and an assist.  Erin Patenaude and Carrie-Jo Farrugia also scored two goals each in the loss.
• A majority of the goalkeeping duties was given to Andrea Francisco who tied her career-high of 11 saves, while Amanda Yavorek took over in the final five minutes, making one save.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT SIENA
•  The Saints are 3-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play after recently dropping a 15-8 decision to the Fairfield Stags on Apr. 12 at Lessing Field.
•  Sarah Croutier is  Siena's leading point scorer, with a team-high 26 goals and eight assists.  Alyssa Treanor leads the squad in assists (11), while Treanor and Erin Mossop are second in points (27).
• Goaltending duties have been given to Samantha DePasquale who has played and started in all 13 games.  DePasquale holds a 13.80 goals against average and a .416 save percentage.

ALL-TIME VS. SIENA
•  Although Niagara holds a slim 9-8 advantage over the Saints in the all-time series that dates back to 1997, Siena has taken 6 of the last 8 games.  The last time NU won against the Saints was back in 2009 when the Purple Eagles came out with a 16-12 victory.      
•  Niagara wrapped up the 2013 regular season with a tilt against the Saints, falling to Siena, 12-9, at Siena Turf Field.  A trio of Purple Eagles pocketed two goals in the game, including Carrie-Jo Farrugia and Kayla Smith.  Paige Matecki and Danielle Maio also added to the score sheet.  Paige Sasser wrapped up the afternoon with nine saves. 
 
UP NEXT FOR NIAGARA
•  Niagara heads out on its last road trip of the regular season when the Purple Eagles travel to Gaelic Park to battle the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday, Apr. 19 at 5 p.m.
