Women’s Lacrosse Returns Home to Host Duquesne

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team begins its two-game home stand on Sunday, March 9 as the Purple Eagles host non-conference opponent Duquesne at the Demske Sports Complex for a 6 p.m. start.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
•  Niagara comes into Sunday's game with a 2-2 overall record, recently falling to the Binghamton Bearcats in non-conference action.   
•  The Purple Eagles' offense is led by a trio of newcomers in Erin PatenaudeHannah Barnett and Taylor Wolf.  Patenaude is tops on the team with 12 points off seven goals and a team-leading five assists.  Barnett has secured a team-high nine goals and has added an assist, while Wolf is eight goals strong on the season.
•  Laura Messer has picked up seven ground balls in four games, while Kayla Smith and Paige Matecki have been the go-to players for draw controls, winning 18 and 10, respectively.
•  All three NU goalies have seen action this season, with Andrea Francisco picking up the majority of minutes.  The freshman has made 21 saves in 170 minutes of play for a .375 save percentage and a 12.32 goals against average.
 
LAST TIME OUT
•  Niagara saw its early season two-game winning streak snapped by Binghamton as the Purple Eagles dropped a 17-7 decision to the Bearcats on Thursday.   
•  The Purple Eagles were led by sophomore Danielle Maio with a pair of goals, while Paige Matecki, Erin Patenaude, Kayla SmithCarrie-Jo Farrugia and Hannah Barnett also contributed a goal each. 
•  Rookie goalie Amanda Yavorek made her debut in the Purple and White as the freshman stepped in for Andrea Francisco in the first period and made six stops.
 
ABOUT DUQUESNE
•  Duquesne is coming off a 14-10 victory at Marquette last Friday, pushing its record to 2-1 on the season. 
•  Overall, Amanda Kidder leads the team with 13 points (11 goals, two assists), while Caitlin Prince (six goals, two assists) and Morgan Matz (three goals, five assists) are tied for third with eight points each. 
•  Kidder is also tops on the Dukes with 10 ground balls picked up, 11 won draw controls and 13 caused turnovers. 
•  Kristen Gregory holds a .452 save percentage and a 9.10 goals against average on the season, making 19 saves in three games.
 
ALL-TIME  AGAINST THE DUKES
•  Sunday's game will be the sixth time the two sides face each other, as Duquesne owns the all-time lead with a 5-0 mark. 
•  The last meeting between the two teams came on March 22, 2013 as the Dukes defeated the Purple Eagles, 22-4.  Maria Battista led the Purple Eagles with two goals, while Danielle Maio added a score.  Carrie-Jo Farrugia contributed an assist on the game.
 
ON DECK
•  Niagara wraps up its two-game home stand when it hosts Detroit Mercy on Friday, March 14 at Niagara Field.  The game is scheduled to being at 3 p.m.
•  The team will hold its Pink Out game during their tilt against the Titans.  There will be t-shirts for purchase along with raffles and giveaways with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Admission to the women's lacrosse game will be free, though donations will be accepted.
