NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team will open the home portion of the season when the Purple Eagles host the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, March 1 at Niagara Field with the opening draw set for 3 p.m.

NIAGARA TIDBITS
• Niagara is 0-1 on the season after dropping a 16-13 decision at Robert Morris last Saturday.

Taylor Wolf and
Erin Patenaude lead the team with three points each. Wolf has pocketed three goals on the season, while Patenaude has a pair of tallies and an assist to her name.

Paige Sasser and
Andrea Francisco each saw time in between the pipes for game one, but it was Francisco who was handed the loss. The freshman has made seven saves in 38 minutes of play, posting a goals against average of 11.07 and a save percentage of .300.
LAST TIME OUT
• Niagara opened the 2014 season with a 16-13 loss to Robert Morris on Saturday, Feb. 22.

MAAC HONORS
• Freshman attacker
Taylor Wolf was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after her three-goal effort last Saturday when NU took on Robert Morris in non-conference play.
• In her first game for the Purple and White, Wolf scored three goals off of five shots to register her first career hat trick.
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
• The University of Cincinnati is starting the 2014 season with a six-game road trip, playing a pair of game in Florida last weekend against Stetson and No. 7/5 Florida. The Bearcats came out with a 17-5 win over the Hatters on Feb. 21 before dropping a 19-6 decision to the Gators on Feb. 23 to send their record to 1-2 on the young season.
• Cincinnati's offense has been led by Megan Bell in three games thus far, as the junior has nine goals and two assists for 11 points. Ashley Helmrath has contributed five goals and a trio of assists, while Michelle Platz has four points all coming off goals.
• Bell also leads the Bearcats' statistical board in groundballs picked up (5) and draw controls won (20) and Meg Gulmi is tops on the team in caused turnovers (5).
• Jennifer Walsh and Gulmi have each seen time in net for Cincinnati in the trio of contests. Gulmi, who has started all three games, has 10 saves on the season and a 19.96 goals against average and a .227 save percentage. Walsh has made seven saves in 72 minutes of play for a 12.43 goals against average and a .318 save percentage.
ALL-TIME VS. CINCINNATI
• Saturday's game will be the second time the two sides face each other with Cincinnati owning the all-time time with a 1-0 mark.
• In their last meeting on March 5, 2013, Niagara led a majority of the game, but could not hold onto its lead, eventually dropping a close 12-11 decision to the Cincinnati Bearcats in the final three seconds of the contest at Nippert Stadium.
• A pair of Purple Eagles each tallied two goals in the balanced Niagara attack, including
Kayla Smith and
Danielle Maio, while
Danielle Maio led the Purple Eagles with a trio of goals.
Carrie-Jo Farrugia also pocketed two points with a goal and an assist.
ON DECK
• After its tilt against the Bearcats, Niagara will head out on a two-game road trip starting with LIU Brooklyn on March 4 in Brookville, N.Y. and wrapping up on March 6 at Binghamton.
