Purple Eagles Begin Final Homestand Versus Stags Thursday

The Niagara Purple Eagles begin their final home weekend on Thursday against the Fairfield Stags at 7 p.m.

Niagara returns home to face Fairfield in search of snapping its six-game skid. The Purple Eagles ended a four-game losing streak by edging Fairfield, 67-63, on Jan. 16 in a game that featured 17 lead changes. Freshman Ramone Snowden scored a game-high 18 points, including the go-ahead basket with 26 seconds left.  Snowden also had a team-high six rebounds and shared team-high honors in steals with two.

NU has won three straight in the series for the first time since 2008-10 and is seeking its first sweep of Fairfield in consecutive seasons since the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.

Tipoff Tidbits
• Antoine Mason moved into fifth all-time in career scoring at Niagara on Feb. 9 after a game-high 33 points versus Manhattan. Mason is 19 points away from moving into fourth place.
• Marvin Jordan needs 28 3-pointers to tie Tyrone Lewis ('10) for first in career 3-pointers at Niagara (290).
• Wesley Myers led Niagara in rebounds with a career-high seven at Manhattan on Feb. 16. Myers has averaged 8.6 points per game and 4.5 rebounds in eight starts this season.
• Marcus Ware is averaging 13.1 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game in the last seven games. Ware set career-highs in free throws with 10 against Marist on Jan. 24 and in rebounds with 12 versus Canisius on Feb. 24 en route to his second career double-double.

Mason Among Nation's Top Scorers 
• Antoine Mason is SECOND in the nation in scoring at 25.6 points per game. He led the nation in scoring from Nov. 23-Feb. 16.
• Mason LEADS the nation in free throws made (214), free throw attempts (289), and in field goals attempts (498).
• Mason accounts for 34 percent of Niagara points which LEADS the country.
• He holds the highest scoring game in regulation in the MAAC this season (career-high 39 vs. Brown).

Scoring Machine
• Antoine Mason has 31 straight games in double figures.
• His career-high 39 points versus Brown are tied for the 18th most in the NCAA Division I this season.
• Mason has 10 30-point games this season, including a stretch of five straight (Nov. 21-30).
•  Mason scored at least 20 points in 11 straight games dating back to last season (snapped on Dec. 6) and has scored at least 20 points in 20 of 25 games this season.
•  Mason has scored at least 20 points in a half eight times this season, including six times in the second half (five straight from Nov. 21-30).

Mason Quickly Moving Up NU All-Time Scoring List
• Antoine Mason entered the top-20 all-time scorers list at Niagara on Nov. 30.
• Mason, who started the season 38th on the list, is currently fifth and is 19 points away from moving ahead of Charron Fisher ('08) for fourth all-time.  

Mason Rising Up MAAC's Charts
• Antoine Mason ranks 28th all-time in career points in MAAC history with 1,780.
• Mason's 692 points are the 16th most in a single-season since the 1997-98 season and his average of 26.0 points per game are tied for third most during the same time span. 
• His 214 free throws made are ranked sixth most in a season since the 1997-98 campaign.

Charity Starts At Home
• Antoine Mason moved ahead of Alex Ellis ('58) for third all-time in free throws made. Mason, who has 530 in his career, is 124 free throws away from tying Calvin Murphy ('70) and Juan Mendez ('05) for first place.
• Mason, the nation's leader in free throws made and attempts, is 28 free throws away from tying Calvin Murphy for most in a single season. Murphy set the single-season school record (242) during the 1967-68.

February Fever
• Niagara is 37-22 in the month of February since the 2006-07 season, including a splendid 23-9 mark at the Gallagher Center.
• NU had its streak of a .500 record or better during the month for sixth straight seasons snapped last season.

On The Court
Fairfield Stags (5-22, 2-14 MAAC)

• Sophomore Marcus Gilbert is tied for the team lead in points per game with 13.6 and is second on the team in rebounds per game with 5.4.
• Freshman KJ Rose leads the team in assists (91) and steals (20).
• Fairfield is second in the MAAC in scoring defense allowing 69.7 points/game.

Against The Stags (Niagara leads, 38-26)
• Niagara leads the series with Fairfield, 38-26, in a series which began during the 1965-66 season.
• After losing six straight to Fairfield, Niagara has won three straight, including sweeping the series last season for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
• The Purple Eagles are 3-3 in the last six home meetings.
