RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Niagara volleyball team had its two-match winning streak snapped in a four-set defeat to the Manhattan Jaspers, 24-26, 25-22, 25-11, 25-17, on Saturday.
Freshman outside hitter
Nicole Matheis led the way for the Purple Eagles with a team-high 11 kills while adding 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Freshman
Alexis Gray led NU with 28 assists and senior
Amanda Sedore led the team in digs with 15. Niagara (6-11, 2-4 MAAC) outlasted Manhattan (11-8, 4-3 MAAC) in the opening set, 26-24, before dropping three straight sets.
"It was an interesting match from a momentum perspective. We played well enough in set one to win easily, but kept letting Manhattan catch up," head coach
Vilis Ozols said. "Then after pulling out the win, we played a solid competitive second set. Unfortunately, in set three we went into the tank with our execution which our demeanor and body language followed. At that point even the simplest plays were unmanageable. Once that confidence was gone there was not a lot of pretty volleyball on our side. Our task will be to regroup quickly."
