Purple Eagles Visit Marist For ESPN3 Contest Saturday

The Niagara Purple Eagles will look for the regular season sweep of the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.

Eight days ago, Niagara held off a late push by Marist to come away with an 80-74 victory at the Gallagher Center. In a game which had 14 lead changes, Niagara made timely baskets as it pulled away in the final minutes in part from a 14-5 run.

The Purple Eagles, who have won nine of the last 12 meetings, picked up their second win in the last six visits to Marist last season with a 57-54 win on Feb. 15 on ESPN3. A win by Niagara would be its four straight in the series and would sweep the season series for the second straight season for the first time the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.

Tipoff Tidbits
• Antoine Mason moved into eighth all-time in career scoring at Niagara on Jan. 24 after netting a team-high 22 points vs. Marist. Mason is two points away from moving into seventh place.
• Marvin Jordan set a personal-best in field goal percent when he went 7-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc, against Marist on Jan. 24. The 70 percent field goal percentage is tied for a season-high with a minimum of seven field goals made.
• Jordan set his career-high in points by dropping 27 against Marist during his freshman campaign on Feb. 6, 2011. That game also witnessed the program's first-ever triple-double by then-senior guard Anthony Nelson.
• Marcus Ware made a career-best 10 free throws out of 13 attempts in Niagara's win over Marist on Jan. 24. Ware also led Niagara in steals with two.

Marist Red Foxes (7-14, 4-7 MAAC)

• Marist is 1-1 since falling to Niagara on Jan. 24 with the lone coming against Monmouth on Thursday.
• Senior Adam Kemp is leading the team with 7.3 rebounds per game to go along with 9.2 points and 1.8 blocks per game.
• Junior Chavaughn Lewis is leading the team in scoring and steals per game with 17.4 points per game and 1.8 steals per game, respectively.
• Freshman guard Khallid Hart was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 27 for the fifth time this season.

Against the Red Foxes (Niagara leads, 23-15)
• Niagara has won nine of the last 12 meetings in the series that started on Dec 5, 1987.
• The Purple Eagles edged the Red Foxes in the first meeting of the season last week at the Gallagher Center. NU has won the last seven meetings at the Gallagher Center, which is the longest home winning streak by either team in the series.
• NU picked up its second win in the last six trips to Marist on Feb. 15, 2013 to complete the regular season sweep last season.

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y.  – The Niagara Purple Eagles used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Marist Red Foxes, 80-74, on Friday night at the Gallagher Center.

February Fever
• Niagara is 37-17 in the month of February since the 2006-07 season, including a splendid 23-6 mark at the Gallagher Center.
• NU had its streak of a .500 record or better during the month for sixth straight seasons snapped last season.

Charity Starts At Home
• Antoine Mason moved ahead of Alex Ellis ('58) for third all-time in free throws made. Mason, who has 511 in his career, is 143 free throws away from tying Calvin Murphy ('70) and Juan Mendez ('05) for first place.
• Mason, the nation's leader in free throws made and attempts, is 47 free throws away from tying Calvin Murphy for most in a single season. Murphy set the single-season school record during the 1967-68.
