Swimming and Diving Swept by Buffalo

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Oxy Aquatic Center.  The men's team fell 116-104 while the women's team dropped a 126-88 decision.

Freshman Shawn Warner collected first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (48.56) and the 500 freestyle (4:57.81), while Robert Brown and James Crumm also pocketed first place in the 50 freestyle (21.89) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.74), respectively.  Several Purple Eagles placed second during the afternoon's meet including Brown in the 100 freestyle (48.56), Tore Hansen in the 500 freestyle (5:13.37) and Nathanial Resila in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.31). 

The men's team also took second place in the 200 medley relay as Shane BaxterCarl Roycroft, Warner and Brown combined for a finishing time of 1:37.29.  The 200 freestyle relay placed second and third.  James CrummJason Ellis Eric Ebert and Cameron Braz clocked in at 1:31.64 for the top time, while Alex SiudaChristopher Fritschi, Hansen and Andrew Ames grabbed second at 1:37.93.

The women took the top three times in the 100 breaststroke as Grace Coyle secured first at 1:14.64, and Clare Curran (1:16.57) and Emma Pullano (1:17.23) followed.   The 1000 freestyle saw Montanna Valler place second (11:37.13) and Morgan Molfino grab third (11:45.33), while Sydney Kligys and Ashley Harrington place second and third, respectively in the 100 butterfly.

The pair of Niagara 200 freestyle relay teams grabbed the top two times in the event.  Kligys, Chelsea O'LaughlinEmily York and Harrington placed first (1:45.10), while Grace McMahonMorgan MolfinoMontanna Valler and Kelsey Ward earned second (2:01.25).

Both the men and women saw first-place finishes as Emily Hughes and JaRon Williams secured first in the three-meter dive, totaling 219.15 and 229.95 points, respectively. 

The men's and women's teams will take a short drive to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on cross-town rival Canisius on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
