NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women’s lacrosse team took time out of their schedule and away from the field this past weekend to lend the community a helping hand.
The members of the team volunteered for the Western Central Basketball Tournament on Sunday, April 7 at the Clearfield Recreation Center in Williamsville, N.Y. The Purple Eagles volunteers at the skills competition which included contests such as target pass, and the 10-meter dribble and spot shot.
“It was great the team was so excited to participate,” Deborah Fleetwood, the Western Central Event Coordinator, said. “The girls did a fabulous job. Smiles, hugs and high fives were shared by all. I was very excited to have the girls volunteer and it was great to see many of them participate in a new experience.”
Several Purple Eagles ran one of the skill events mentioned above, while others escorted athlete groups to these events. The team also helped hand out ribbons at the end of the competition.
Niagara is set to begin the final three weeks of the regular season this Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Eagles will take on the Iona Gaels at 1 p.m. at Mazzella Field.
