NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women’s lacrosse team begins its two-game homestand with a game against Little 3 foe St. Bonaventure Tuesday at 7 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Long Island University. Both contests will be at Niagara Field.

Last Time Out
The Purple Eagles (1-4) tallied their first win of the 2013 campaign last Thursday with a 9-7 overtime victory over Robert Morris. Niagara had an excellent showing from
Maria Battista who netted three goals,
Danielle Maio, Carrie-Jo Farrugia and
Brittany Delano who contributed two goals each.
Goaltender
Paige Sasser recorded a season-high 16 saves for her first career victory.
Who’s Who On NU?
Brittany Delano leads Niagara in points with 10, while tied for the team lead in goals with
Fran Pollastro (9). Delano and
Kayla Smith tops the team with 11 groundballs and
Caroline Grosso leads the way in caused turnovers (7), while
Paige Matecki has been dominant on the draw controls, winning 12.
Scouting the Bonnies
St. Bonaventure comes to Monteagle Ridge undefeated in its first pair of games during the 2013 season with wins over Winthrop and Coastal Carolina.
The team is led by Jenna Schlagenhauf who has netted eight goals and an assist for nine, while Taylor Ventre is not far behind with six points (5 goals; 1 assist).
Goaltending duties have been split between Karly Kocis and Sara Schlagenhauf who each have secured a win. Kocis holds a 7.00 goals-against average and a .462 save percentage, while Sara owns a 14.00 GAA and a .333 save percentage.
All-Time vs. St. Bonaventure
The Purple Eagles will be looking for their first win over the Bonnies in 12 tries, as St. Bonaventure holds an 11-0 advantage in the all-time series that started in 2001.
Niagara opened the home portion of the 2012 schedule against the Bonnies, dropping a 15-11 decision to its Big 4 opponent.
Courtney Pierce finished the game with two goals, while
Paige Matecki and
Brittany Delano each added a tally.
Taking a Look at the Blackbirds
LIU will be looking for its first win of the season when they meet NU on the field. The team will play Canisius on Thursday before taking the short drive to Niagara Field on Saturday.
The Blackbirds have received offensive contributions from a handful of players, as Shakoya Smith leads the way with seven goals and two assists for nine points. Caitlin Farrell (6-1-7) and Colleen Holmes (4-0-0) have also been key to the attack.
Gin Haber has played the majority of minutes in between the pipes for the Blackbirds, owning an 18.42 goals-against average and a .404 save percentage.
All-Time vs. LIU
NU defeated Long Island, 7-5, in the club’s first regular-season game of the 2004 season, the only time the Purple Eagles have met the Blackbirds on the field.
