Men’s Basketball Drops Final Game Of Road Swing, 86-61

Box Score
JONESBORO, Ark. – The Niagara Purple Eagles fell to the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 86-61, on Monday night in the final leg of their six-game road trip.

Antoine Mason led Niagara (1-7) in scoring for the eighth straight game. Mason, the nation's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 20 points for his 11th straight 20-plus game.  Fellow co-captain Marvin Jordan scored 14 points and had a season-high four triples.

Niagara's strong start to the second half wasn't enough to overcome a sluggish beginning to the game. A-State (5-2) jumped out to a 32-12 lead after 11 minutes of play en route to a 45-26 halftime lead.

Niagara started the better of the two teams in the second half. The Purple Eagles opened the half on an 11-4 run, including scoring the first six points.  NU eventually cut the deficit to the single-digits for the first time since the score was 16-7 at the 15:04 mark in the first half. Wesley Myers went coast-to-coast and was fouled on a made layup to bring Niagara to 60-51 with 8:54 remaining. However, the points would be Niagara's last for over four minutes as the Red Wolves extended their lead with a 9-0 run during NU's scoring drought to pull away for the win.

Niagara returns home for its first game at the Gallagher Center since it home opening win over Buffalo on Nov. 13 this Friday, Dec. 6 in its MAAC opener against Siena at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, ESPN 1520 AM and Purple Eagles All-Access.
