NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's swimming and diving team fell to the Youngstown State Penguins by a 191-100 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Oxy Aquatic Center.
Freshman
Montanna Valler earned her second first place finish of the young season with a come-from-behind victory in the 1000 freestyle (11:05.56).
Morgan Molfino (11:24.66) and Emily Altier (11:25.88) finished the same event in third and fourth place, respectively. Valler also pocketed a second place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:30.52.
"Our women came out and had some great races today," head coach
Ben Nigro said. "I am very pleased with how they are swimming this early in the season. Youngstown is a very strong program and we did a great job of competing with them today."
Niagara's 200 medley relay team of
Meredith Ricks, Grace Coyle, Ashley Harrington and
Chelsea O'Laughlin started off the meet clocking in at 1:55.30 for second place.
The Purple Eagles also received second place finishes from
Emily York in the 200 freestyle (2:02.41), Ricks in the 100 backstroke (1:01.31) and 200 backstroke (2:15.38), Coyle in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.92) and 200 backstroke (2:38.36), Harrington in the 200 butterfly (2:18.04) and
Sydney Kligys in the 50 freestyle (25.61) and 100 freestyle (55.94).
On the board,
Emily Hughes registered a pair of second place finishes, earning 199.50 points in the one-meter dive, and 203.55 points in the three-meter dive.
The women will be joined by the men's swimming and diving team tomorrow as the Purple Eagles travel to Waterloo, Ont. to take on the Waterloo Warriors. The meet scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
