NU Continues MAAC Play Against Siena, Quinnipiac

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's soccer team will travel to Loudonville, N.Y., Wednesday to take on the Siena Saints, before returning home on Saturday to kick start a three-game homestand with Quinnipiac. 

Wednesday's game will be a 3 p.m. tilt, while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m.

Purple Eagles 101
Niagara heads into the second week of conference play with a 2-6-1 overall mark and a 0-0-1 MAAC record. 

After going the first eight games with just a goal, junior forward Callum Willmott jumped out for the team lead in goals (3) after pocketing a pair this past weekend.  Willmott is tied with rookie Nicholas Watson with seven points, as Watson has a team-best three assists and two goals.

Brenden Ottman has been the regular in goal for the Purps, making 14 saves in 380 minutes for a .737 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average.

Last Time Out
Niagara tied its first MAAC game of the season with a 2-2 double overtime draw at Niagara Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Purple Eagles went up 2-1 at halftime off a pair of Willmott goals, but Saint Peter's fought back to tie the game in the second half with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Scouting the Saints
Siena is currently 4-4-0 after suffering a double overtime loss to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.  Wednesday's matchup against Niagara will be the team's first MAAC game of the season.

This season, the Saints are led by James Beeston's 13 points on five goals and three assists.  Falko Friedrichs and Matt Needham are the second-leading scorers on the team with two goals each.  Adam Myers has played in goal in five of the team's eight games this season, posting a goals-against average of 1.12 and a save percentage of .647 in earning four victories.  

All-Time vs. Siena
Last season, Siena handed Niagara it's only loss of the regular season, 1-0.  The teams met again in the conference semifinals where the Purple Eagles advanced to the championship game with a 2-1 overtime victory.  Siena leads the all-time series 14-7-4. 

Taking a Look at Quinnipiac
The Bobcats enter the game on Saturday with Quinnipiac holding a 2-3-4 record, and a 0-0-1 conference mark after playing to a 0-0 draw against Iona in the team's MAAC opener.

Simon Hinde leads the team in points with 10 on five goals.  He is followed by Machel Baker who has registered two goals and two assists in seven games.

Goalkeeper Borja Angoitia has played every minute for the Bobcats this season, making 40 saves and allowing 10 goals for a .800 save percentage and a 1.01 goals-against average.

Purple Eagles vs. Bobcats
Quinnipiac and Niagara have only met twice before, with the Bobcats pocketing both victories.  The last time the teams met was on Sept. 2, 2000 where QU dropped Niagara 2-1.

After Saturday's game against Quinnipiac Niagara will continue its three-game homestand with a bout against Fairfield Stags on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. and wrapping up against the Rider Broncs on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.
