No. 17 Niagara Set To Face Bentley For Weekend Home Series

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The nationally-ranked No. 17 Purple Eagles will look to retain their grip on the top spot in the Atlantic Hockey standings with a pair of conference matchups this weekend, when Niagara hosts the Bentley Falcons on Friday (Feb. 1) and Saturday (Feb. 2) at Dwyer Arena. 
 
Tune In
Niagara’s games verse Bentley will be broadcasted live on WJJL 1440 AM and PurpleEagles.com, with Jeremy White on the call for both games.

Friday’s game will also be available on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with David Miller and Andrew Peters on the call, and Nate Lull on the sideline.

Home Sweet Home
The 6-4 victory vs. RIT on Jan. 26 extended NU’s current home ice unbeaten streak to 15 games, dating back to NU’s 3-3 draw against Air Force on Feb. 11, 2012.

Niagara is the only team in Division I hockey to go 22 consecutive games without a loss between Feb.11, 2006 and Nov. 17, 2007.
 
Last Time Out
Niagara took on RIT in a home-and-home series, coming out with a 1-0-1 record for the weekend, tying the first game 3-3 and won the second, 6-4.

Ryan Rashid scored twice in the opening game at RIT, while C.J. Chartrain lit the lamp twice the following day.  Along with Rashid and Chartrain, four other Purps earned three or more points in the pair of contests, including Marc Zanette (2-1-3), Dan Kolenda (1-2-3), Patrick Divjak (1-2-3) and Chris Lochner (0-4-4). 

Carsen Chubak wrapped up the weekend with 68 stops for a 3.36 GAA and a .907 save percentage.
 
Purps In The Polls
The Niagara hockey team kept its position in the latest USCHO.com Division I poll this week, maintaining a 17th ranking with 180 votes. 

The Purps have been ranked for a program-best ten consecutive weeks.  The previous record was held by the 2006-07 squad where Niagara was ranked for seven straight weeks (Jan. 2-Feb. 12, 2007).

The team’s highest position came during the week of Jan. 14 when the team pulled down a No. 15 ranking, a program-best ranking in the USCHO.com poll. 

The USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll has the Purps at the top receiving votes with 17, while the NCAA Tournament Pairwise Comparison Ratings has NU holding the17th position.
 
Scouting The Falcons   
Bentley comes to Monteagle Ridge holding a 11-11-1 overall mark, and a 9-7-1 conference mark.  The Falcons are currently in fourth place in the AHA with 19 points. 

Brett Gensler is tied for the team lead in goals (12), and is tops in assists (19) and points (31).  Andrew Gladiuk also has 12 tallies on the year, pocketing 26 points in 22 games.  Bentley has also gotten offensive contributions from Alex Grieve (9-15-24) and Steve Weinstein (6-16-22).

Brenden Komm has been the go-to goaltender for Bentley, owning a .878 save percentage and a 3.83 goals-against average.
 
Last Time Meeting On The Ice
Niagara won the first meeting with the Falcons during the 2011-12 season, 6-4, but came out with a 2-2 draw the following day at Ryan Arena.    Jeff Hannan led the way with two goals over the pair of contests, while Marc Zanette (1-1-2), and Patrick Divjak (0-2-2) also added two points each. 
 
Next Up For The Purps
Niagara take part in two Battle of the Bridge contests against cross-town rival Canisius in a home-and-home series on Feb. 7 at Buffalo State Arena and Feb. 8 at Dwyer.
