Buffalo Sweeps Swimming & Diving

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Niagara swimming and diving team were swept against the University at Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.  The Bulls claimed the men’s event by a 147-80 score and the women’s event by a 139-96 score. 

On the women’s side, Lindsey Jackson took top honors in the 200-yard IM (2:17.62, and earned a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a finishing time of 1:02.31.  Aubrey Kettrick finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (54.54), and the 200-yard freestyle  with a time of 1:56.21 to break her own Niagara record. 

Julia BulmahnMorgan Molfino and Erica Crane also had a strong afternoon.  Bulmahn placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.08), while Molfino swam a 5:24.44 in the 500-yard freestyle for a second place finish.  Crane clocked in a 1:12.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke for second place. 

The men’s side was led by Carl Roycroft and Shane Baxter who placed first in their respective events.  Baxter saw the 100-yard backstroke in 52.32, while Roycroft touched the wall at 1:01.06 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The 100-yard butterfly saw Brian Sawma finish second with a time of 53.90, while Tyler McCrobie  wrapped up the 100-yard freestyle in second (52.27).  Jason Ellis  added a second-place finish for the Purple Eagles in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:57.34.

The relay teams fared well on both the men’s and women’s side.   Bulmahn, Crane, Jackson and Chelsea O'Laughlin placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.21).  Kettrick, Emily Kisloski,  Emily York and Ashley Harrington combined for a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in a 1:44.90, while Clare CurranRenee ParsonsMegan Marcin and Molfino were not far behind for a third place finish (1:52.68). 

Eric Ebert, McCrobie, Joshua Remaniak and Ellis swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.31 for first place, and the quartet of Alex Siuda  Brady Small,  Bradley Ash and Nick Zehr placed second (1:37.43). 

On the board, Austin Devlin finished the one-meter event in fourth (241.20), and the three-meter dive in third place with a final score of 263.55.  For the women, Emily Hughes and Faith O'Malley wrapped up the one-meter and three-meter diving competition in the fourth and fifth place, respectively.  

Both the men and women are back in the pool next Saturday when the Purple Eagles host cross-town rival Canisius at the Oxy Aquatic Center.
