NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara women's lacrosse team fell 15-5 to the Marist Red Foxes in the Purple Eagles' final game of the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field.
"It was unfortunate that we had to end on that note for the seniors," head coach
Amber Hill said. "We've had the same issues all year-lack of execution, turnovers and ground balls. I am very much looking forward to moving forward in the fall and knowing exactly what my team needs to work on."
Niagara (3-11; 0-6 MAAC) got on the board first during Senior Day, with a tally from senior
Emily French less than one minute into the contest. The Red Foxes (4-12; 4-2 MAAC) answered with a free position goal from junior Ashley Miller at the 26:59 mark to even the game at one apiece.
Freshman
Carrie-Jo Farrugia grabbed her 13th goal of the season to make it 2-1 before Marist went on a 6-2 run to end the opening half. The run was led by senior Ariel Kramer who netted four goals, giving the Red Foxes a 7-4 lead heading into intermission.
Marist started the scoring in the second stanza off a tally from Kramer, but junior
Katherine Pille found the back of the net 56 seconds later to bring the game back within three goals. The goal was a superb solo effort by the defender as she picked up a turnover by goalie Ashley Casiano and ran in towards goal before ripping a high shot for her first goal of the season.
The Red Foxes would put the game out of the reach for Niagara as they tallied the remaining seven goals of the game.
Junior
Fran Pollastro ended the contest with two goals, finishing the season with 26 tallies.
Freshman goalie
Nicole Wawro made eight saves during the game.
